Keith! (soykeith) | 1 comments Hi all! I'm Keith, 27, currently in London. 👋 I read mostly in English but also in Italian and Spanish. Just finished reading A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L. Peck about 10 minutes ago. I have too many favourite books, Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus is one of my most recents that springs to mind.

Hi Keith 👋
First of all, welcome to the group! We're thrilled you've decided to join us.
And second, congratulations reaching your goal for 2024! 🥳Looks like you've been having quite the successful reading year.

I am sad to admit I'm kind of out of the loop when it comes to Italian authors. Do you have a book you'd recommend I pick up in 2025?

Wishing you all the best on your reading journey. Happy reading!

yasmin ⟡ ݁₊ ⋆˚⊹ | 1 comments Hi everyone!
I’m Yasmin, 26, from Scottish Highlands 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
I recently bought a Kindle to get back into reading, since i have barely touched a book since lockdown! I’m hoping it will improve my mental health and stress levels, as it has in the past. I just love escaping everyday life and diving into a fixating book.
I’m aiming to read as many books as possible before the end of the year, and to finish the A-Z challenge.
SO FAR in the past few weeks i have read:
A - The Accidental Dating Experiment - Lauren Blakely
G - Girl A - Abigail Dean
I - I’m Glad My Mom Died - Jennette McCurdy
M - The Mistress - Valerie Keogh
P - The Pumpkin Spice Cafe - Laurie Gilmore
V - Very, Very Lucky - Amanda Prowse
I can’t wait to get going with my next read!

Elizabeth Sofia | 150 comments Yasmin, I saw your post yesterday, but was a "headless chicken" and wanted to respond when my brain is functioning. I love your name. I joined Goodreads for the same reasons you sited, and it has been a tremendous help for me. I don't know what your financial situation is, nor do I know the cost of Kindle Unlimited in Scotland. I am on a tight budget, and I find Kindle Unlimited to be quite economical for my reading tastes. I live in deep South Texas, and the nearest bookstores are about 2 hours away. I don't drive anymore, and I am quite satisfied with the choices available

Elizabeth Sofia | 150 comments Keith, I saw your post earlier this week, and wanted to welcome you to the group. I have really enjoyed interacting with the other members. I live in a small oil/ranching/farming community in deep South Texas. I enjoy reading posts from people of different ages, gender/sex, and nationalities, and I have four that my outlook on life is broadened by exposure to new and different opinions, educational backgrounds, and life experiences.

Welcome to our group, Yasmin! 👋
I 100% credit my Kindle for getting back into reading. I would never ever be able to read the amount of books I read in a year, if it weren't for the ability to read in the dark, while in bed.

I don't know what variation of the A-Z challenge you're aiming to complete, but we host one focusing on Book Titles, you might be interested in checking out 😊.
Wishing you the best of luck on your reading journey! If you're ever in need of any book recommendations to get you back into the groove of reading, let me know. I'm always happy to help other people grow their monumental TBR piles 😁.

Take a look around and join any challenges that appeal to you, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
I hope you have a fantastic time! Happy reading!

That sounds like a phenomenal goal. In case you haven't noticed, we have a A-Z Challenge: Book Titles that would most definitely help you achieve that. 😊

Wishing you all the best with your reading challenge in the upcoming months. I hope you have lots of fun in the group, and decide to join some of the challenges we've got coming up in October as well!
Happy reading!

Amy | 1 comments Hi, my name is Amy, and I live in Statesville, NC, usa,

I'll read anything as long as it sounds interesting to me, and I'll read across all genres, too. Although Horror and Thrillers make up most of my bookshelves. I also enjoy reading graphic novels and manga.

My goal this year was to read as many of my 500+ page books as I could, and I finished them all except 1 or 2 that I just couldn't get through. My book goal was 36, and I hit that, so the rest of the year is all bonus books!

Welcome Amy! 👋
That's such an admirable goal. Congratulation on your progress so far!

I must admit, based on your proclamation of genres, I was expecting to find more thrillers/horror among that list. Did you enjoy Sleeping Beauties, though? I've been trying to find a "good time" (whatever that is) to pick it up. So far, no dice.

Are there any books in particular you're most interested in reading before the end of the year?

I hope you continue having an amazing reading journey 😊. Wishing you all the best. Don't hesitate to reach out if you any have questions or just want to talk books.
Happy reading!

message 321: by Alex (new)

Alex | 3 comments Hi! I'm Alex, and I'm from Canada.

I like reading classics at the moment, particularly Russian literature like Dostoevsky. I have too many books on my shelf to read and not enough time to get through them all! I also like fantasy, but need time to go from series to series. My favourite fantasy series are Lord of the Rings, of course, Harry Potter, and the Witcher.

My reading goal for 2024 was 20 books, but I'm a bit behind on that... I'll be happy to read 16 this year. Books I have next on my list are: Don Quixote, the Picture of Dorian Grey, and a Tale of Two Cities.

My overall reading goal is Ulysses.. but I need a far better understanding of the Odyssey, the Bible, and Shakespeare before I feel ready to tackle it!

I am a researcher in the field of water resources engineering so when I'm not reading fiction, I'm scouring Google Scholar for research papers, which are significantly less enjoyable!

Hi Alex! 👋 Welcome to the group!
16 books is an amazing accomplishment. And there's always next year to reach (or even surpass) the 20-book-mark. I tend to have a deep admiration for people that actively pursue Russian literature. I have read and enjoyed a few in the past, but continuing on on that particular path always feels extremely daunting 😅. Which has been your favorite so far?

Wishing you the best of luck with your reading goals during the remainder of 2024. And if you enjoy buddy reading and group discussions, I sincerely recommend checking out our Buddy Reads section. I read The Picture of Dorian Gray that way a few years ago, and I think it can be a great motivator to get through more classics,

I hope you have a fantastic literary journey - Happy reading!

Hi Alex, I'm aiming to get through classics this year. I have been reading Wilkie Collins' 'The Woman in White'.

Which Witcher novel was the highlight of the series in your view? I found the first novel difficult to delve into however, it was a whirlwind after that. After reading the books i stopped watching the Netflix series. Dandelion was a better name in my unpopular opinion.

I agree that Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter are unsurpassable. I'd probably add The Hobbit in there. I would also sneak in Dhakespeare's Much ado about Nothing of which I memorised the scene between Benedict and Beatrice when they're arguing upon their first meeting at her uncle's.
I am currently reading a Wilkie Collins novel, yet am also 23 pages into Eilde's 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. I mention this in the instance you want to have a Buddy Read. I also have Ulysses on my tbr which is hopefully slightly easier or on par with Chaucer's 'Wife of Bath'.

I don't envy your research papers, I've just put mine down at the end of the degree. I wish you luck in your endeavours.
Emily

Val | 1 comments Hello! My name is Val and I'm from the US!
I read a whole array of books, but my primary interest is in Classical literature. My favorite book of all time is Frankenstein, I'm always trying to find similar books to Frankenstein and any Frankenstein adjacent books. I also read some Manga but as a college student having to move from home, I haven't had access to many of my classic books or manga :(
I found this group by just searching around for active and friendly groups!
My reading goal is always fluctuating. I started with 8, but now it's at 13!! It may increase by the end of the year!

My favourites have been Brothers Karamazov and Notes from Underground. I'm really excited to get to more Dostoevsky, but also want to read Tolstoy's major works next year. Apart from that, Dead Souls by Gogol is on my list because it was mentioned by Dostoevsky a couple times.

Hey Emily!

I think my favourite Witcher book was Baptism of Fire; part of me would really like to revisit the series but perhaps I'll wait another few years. I really loved the characters, but was let down by the plot. I suspect on a re-read, I will enjoy the story even more because I know what to expect.

I'd be open to a Buddy read! You can message me privately and we can sort it out. I'm also finished my current book and ready to move on to another one.

Cool! I read Dead Souls for a group project, in high school, but I seriously need to re-read it as an adult. I have had the most fantastic plan to read The Night Before Christmas, for the past five years - specifically when Christmas rolls around. and so far it has just not happened😅 So I thank you for mentioning Gogol!

Hi and a belated welcome to the group, Val! 👋
You mentioned that Frankenstein: The 1818 Text is a favorite-of-all-time, so now I'm curious about what it is about it that makes it so? I ask because I kind of have different recommendations depending on what you're looking for in similar books. Is it the themes, the characters, or gothic horror as a genre, the writing, a mix of all-the-above, or something else entirely?

Wishing you all the best on your journey to surpassing your goal! I hope you have fun, and discover lots of new favorites. 😊
Happy reading!

Welcome Dhruti!
It sounds like you know your way around the romance genre. Out of curiosity, what's your favorite trope? I think I'll forever prefer an "enemies-to-lovers" over a "friends-to-lovers". I would love to hear your thoughts on the Madison Kate series if you ever pick it up 😊 .

Hi Sofia, 👋
Well done on finishing nursing school, and welcome back to the world of the bookish! We're super thrilled to have you join our group! 😊

I was looking through your TBR-shelf and noticed The Hate You Give, which we will be reading as a group in November, so I would like to encourage you to join us for that . It's a great and fun way to participate and meet other members 😊.
We're all super friendly here, so I have no doubt in my mind that you'll have no problem finding new reading friends.

Hi Melissa! 👋
It's never too late to join, and we're so happy to welcome you to our community!
I joined the group mid-December way back when, and set my goal to one book because I couldn't figure out how I was supposed to read more in those two-three weeks before the new year 😅.

I hope you have an amazing time in the group and manage to squeeze a few more books in before the end of the year - even it's not all 80 😊.
Looking forward to getting to know you. Wishing you a fantastic reading journey! 📚

I like to read Fantasy and Romance, but also sometimes read detective stories ( Agatha Christie and Anne Cleeves )and non-fiction books.
One of my favorite authors is Cassandra Clare, but I don't like S.J.Maas and you can hunt me with Scarlett St.Clair.
I already have reached my yearly goal.
I always set a two books per month goal and keep updating it as the year goes on, up until June, after that everything is just extra.

Hi Kay-Mika, from Germany! 👋 Congratulations on reaching your goal! 🥳
Have you been lucky enough to discover any new favorites this year? If so, which would you recommend?

I hope to see you around joining any challenges and buddy reads that pique your interest 😊. We are currently reading The Hate You Give this month, and will be reading To Kill a Mockingbird in December, if you feel like joining the discussions.

Lumina (kuraisora) | 1 comments Hello I go by Lumina
I'm from California. I enjoy reading a lot of fantasy but have started to branch out to mystery and thriller. I found the group by searching TBR to hopefully find new friends to help me pick a few books from my google form. My reading goal is 50 and I'm pretty sure I've surpassed it at least on a different reading tracker. I will say I don't use goodreads as much but I would still like to make friends.

I like to read everything except erotica and self-help. I will read self-help if I am paid enough, though. :)

Welcome Lumina! 👋
Wishing you the best of luck with your TBR in December. We do host a year-long TBR Jar which will also make a comeback in 2025, so you should definitely keep a lookout for that! 😊

Since you also mention making friends in conjunction with reading books from your TBR, I would really encourage you to check out the TBR Twins. I'm linking to the December sign-up, but if December is too hectic an you'd rather try it out another month, you're also more than welcome to do that instead as it's a monthly activity 😊.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and let me know! I certainly hope you stick around to enjoy the group - we've got lots of fun stuff planned for 2025, and also really great challenges coming in December.
Wishing you the best of luck on your reading journey!

Do you have a new favorite of 2024?

You've definitely come to the right place for new friendships and book recommendations. I think my ginormous and ever-growing TBR-pile is fine evidence of that 😁.

Lexi (lexi_gambrill) | 104 comments Hello Everyone. My name is Lexi and I am from South Carolina.

My reading for 2024 is 24 books even though I have surpassed it by reading 18 additional books. 🤭🤭🤭.

Favorite genre includes: YA (all the time), murder mystery, thriller (on occasion), and fantasy (just started this year).

I found this group through a GR friend. They posted an update under the “personal reading challenge folder” and I got curious on how it worked. Which then led me to explore the millions of other different folders that are listed and then I just decided to join the group and make friends this upcoming year.

I have already posted my personal reading goal in the 2025 “personal reading challenge folder.” And I am also thinking about doing the “A-Z Challenge for Women Authors.”

Cynthia (cynthia1974) | 2 comments Hi I'm Cynthia. I live in Colorado. I love fantasy, RH, dark romance, and thrillers. So far for 2024 I have read 108 books, my goal was 52. I think for 2025 I'm going to set a goal of 100 and do more reading challenges that have books outside my go to genre.

Way to go on doubling your reading goal this year. Have you found any new favorites or books that you'd recommend?

It sounds like you're all set for 2025 with a great reading challenge ! Wishing you lots of luck. I hope you have an amazing 2025 😊.

Sylvia Fey (sylviafey) | 32 comments Hello. I'm Sylvia.
I'm from the US

I've never been in a reading group or bookclub (despite wanting to join. Anxiety. Yay!) and thought I'd start somewhere that I'm visiting almost constantly anyway. I used to read all the time when I was a kid and teen and then I became an adult and just... stopped. I'm trying to get back into reading, and last year discovered reading journals through watching Youtube scrapbook journaling.

I like reading fiction; murder/mystery, thriller, romance (blanket romance genre), fantasy, comedy, and recently discovered I enjoy reading the cozy, cutesy genre or "slice of life"... is that what's it's called? Anyway, I'm down to reading stuff people suggest and look forward to discovering new authors, genres, and books.

I attempted a 100 books reading challenge last year and only read 15 books so my goal for this year is to just read every day, even if it's just a page from whatever book I'm reading and hope I don't lose interest. I'm going to try my hand at reading journaling so hopefully that keeps me going. I have a literal pile of books, 3 feet high, staring me in my eyeballs and it needs to be dealt with. lol
