If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend A Long Petal of the Sea by Allende. I read it in Spanish so I can't speak to the English translation but in my opinion it's her best book!
mine was the hunger games series, the writing, the characters, everything was written so beautifully.

Shannon, I read The Hundred Year Old Man in 2017 and LOVED it!! Another fave is this year's novel by Isabel Allende, The Wind Knows My Name, translated from Spanish. I also loved The Long Petal of the Sea (a nod to Nicole for her comment here), which wasn't published in 2023 but WOW. I've read most of Allende and she never fails.

Guess what? I got the rest of the series for my birthday! I'm over the moon and can't wait to dive into the next installments by N.K. Jemisin. Here's to more captivating moments and epic adventures within the Broken Earth trilogy!

I'm a huge fan of Backman and Jonas Jonasson who wrote The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared. In fact, I like Swedish writers in general...I too prefer soulful and quirky books:)
