Etienne | 4 comments Fiction about two brothers who visit a forest often. A rather short story of max. 150 or so pages.
Spoiler alert:
Near the end of the book, the older brother doesn't return after going to the forest by himself. The narrator then gives the reader two options:

- either the older brother never returns and the little brother nor his family ever find out about what happened to him, or:

- the older brother does return, yet something fundamental has changed about him and he never returns to his old self. Also, he doesn't share with anyone what happened while he was away.

I read the book between 2006 and 2010 during childhood. It could be a young adult book - but I'm not sure at all! I have some vague memory of the writer and/or the characters being Scandinavian, but not sure about that either. In my memory the book has a green/dark cover.

Have been searching for a while now, would give salvation and fulfillment if I were to find out! Thanks!

Loads of editions, translations of this one... lots of covers. ;)

"The mystery of Ryhope Wood, Britain's last fragment of primeval forest, consumed George Huxley's entire, and long, life. Now, after his death, his sons have taken up his work. But what they discover is beyond what they could have expected. For the Wood is a realm where myths gain flesh and blood, tapping primal fears and desires subdued through the millennia. A realm where love and beauty haunt your dreams -- and may drive you insane."

Sounds cool, but it's not it unfortunately, thanks!

It wasn't a fantasy novel per se, may have had some elements of it
