Hi, I read trial of this book 2-3 years ago and completely forgot the name and the author

Plot: in the beginning there is an old wizard who seems lost it's magical abilities and he has child disciple. They look for some ancient artifacts, but they hide in woods from the king who hunts for wizards. Then some man from village comes and asks them to come and check some artifact and when they come there was an ambush which they escaped and forwarded to some city in order to find some answers.
