Brigia | 51 comments Melissa wrote: "How's everyone doing?

I am doing fine, starting some new books today I am looking forward to. No eclipse over here, but we’ve got really weird summer weather, though the forecast predicts snow again in a couple of days…
An eclipse is exciting! Did you get a good view?

Gwen|| Bookish Blondie (bookishblondie) | 48 comments I am located in the path of totality in Ohio and got to see it. Very cool.

message 305: by Jotsmar (new)

Jotsmar M | 19 comments Hello ladies! how are you doing?

we saw the eclipse too! was pretty cool to see a very unique event for the first time!

it has been so busy for me, i will be moving across the country next week, i will try my best to read as much as i can this week, we have a long road trip ahead.

message 306: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 597 comments Just saw the eclipse too :)
We are also in the path of totality - one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Jotsmar, what a trip! Good luck with the move!

Ingeborg (redrum) | 410 comments No eclipse here, sadly. We did have one (don't remember if it was partial or complete) a few years ago, and that was very cool, so I definitely get the hype! :D

message 308: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments @Melissa, I inadvertently put Beyond That, the Sea on two lines: 41 and 88. I didn't want to dump either because you had N highlighted for line 88 so I'll let you decide. Sorry about that!

I just added a book that can fit for N if you need to use it in its place.

Good catch.
It looks like I only put it once on the official sheet. I deleted one of the lines on the tracker, so I think we're good.

Thanks for the other book Gwen! I put it in a different nine slot.

message 311: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments I'm glad it didn't require a lot of extra moving things around! Thanks. :)

I should have a book or two finished up by the end of the weekend.

Awesome!
Thanks Melissa!

message 315: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 597 comments Ooof. I just checked and series title doesn't work for this challenge. I know it does for some challenges. The "title" just counts for the book.

Vicki, I need to move your blue seven down to the regular section. It has many other letters, so I'm sure it will fit in quickly.

Blue seven is open.

Gwen|| Bookish Blondie (bookishblondie) | 48 comments Butterflies on Breezes can be moved to blue 7. I’m reading a series with a V author name and can read a few more for the regular 7 ones.

I just finished Hogfather (Discworld, #20) by Terry Pratchett which works for Blue 7. :) Added to the spreadsheet.

Something Wicked This Way Comes - April Mini Challenge

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players. Come on over and explore the dark side of books and reading.

You just could not resist the UNO Mods luring you in to the Hidden Bar and of course you took that one last drink for the road, didn't ya?

After consuming that last drink, you see that another door has appeared on the backwall of the Hidden Bar. And you feel compelled to rise from your table, open it and step through.

You find yourself in a strange, eerie place with dark corners, hidden nooks and crannies, ghostly lights, voices whispering in your ears and, of course, there are all those books on countless and endless shelves calling out to you to read them.

You are in the Hidden LaB(Y)ARinth Library and the only way OUT is IN.

You have to find and read the RIGHT WRONG books in time to get out.

◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 10 points. Each book can be used for one task only.
◈ Books for tasks can be finished in any order. No need to complete blocks to get the 10 points/book.
◈ If your team completes the main tasks (1-45), you get 30 points as bonus.

◈ You get 10 points/book for each of the Evil Extras (tasks 46-55), but they are not part of the completion bonus, just for some more fun if you think you can complete them before the end of the month.

◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on 15 April, 9am UTC

COUNTDOWN Link:
https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

and before 1 May at 9am UTC (when UNO 2024 finishes).

◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books from what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points

Ingeborg (redrum) | 410 comments Again a fun mini! These mods are creative.

Added a book for the mini where I'm listening to the audio edition. So I have a quote that fits (checked through google books), but don't know the page number for that quote. Is it necessary for points?

I looked it up in a library ebook. It's page 7 for the book, but you can probably put the timestamp where you heard it.

Melissa | 597 comments Coming into the weekend! Phew.
We're doing well.
We have 7 regular cards to finish up on
We're still flexible on cards though - the only thing we may be tight on are reverses.
We've got some colored cards to finish up - mine being one of them.
And then we've got a handful of April Bonuses!

Any recommendations from your reading?

I really enjoyed Someone Else's Shoes that Vicki recommended. I'm reading How to Say Babylon which is a really interesting memoir.

message 333: by Brigia (new)

Brigia | 51 comments I'm working on Sword Catcher, which is quite long - but I enjoy it and should be done within a few days. I haven't decided what to read next, so I'll take a look at the spreadsheet and find something we need by then.

message 334: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments I just added a book to the bottom, but there are no black border lines and I don't know how to create them. Sorry. :(

message 335: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 597 comments No worries, Vicki! I just put some in.
We are finished with our regular numbers for April! Just waiting on some of the colored cards, but we still have a week.
Most of our efforts can be focused on the mini.

message 336: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments I am currently reading one of the colored cards that I signed up for now.

message 337: by Brigia (new)

Brigia | 51 comments Me, too! I’ll finish tomorrow or the day after.

message 338: by Brigia (last edited Apr 23, 2024 11:45AM) (new)

Brigia | 51 comments I am going to switch from None of This Is True to Slaying the Vampire Conqueror, as that works better for the mini. I’ll finish that, Sword Catcher and Evil Eye in time.
