Melissa | 597 comments Orrrr a visit to the library!!! What are all your libraries like? Mine is nice - in an old stone building. Two floors and some comfy chairs. I like their monthly displays.

You could also go home, right? As in River Sing Me Home?

I’m pretty sure that Lady Tan mentions fruit, though it’s a tad difficult for me to find the phrase in the audiobook. But with 3 of us already reading for that, we would just need 2 more.

That sounds lovely! Mine is a modern building, with big windows and tables to work at. It’s a longish drive to the city, so I typically only get to go once a month. I try to make a special trip out of it - no kids, no other chores, just time to find some good books ☺️

I don't think home would work, because we're supposed to be going to the bar, not away from it. 😆 Although home would be in my directions many a Friday night! Home!! Sleep!!

I'm reading Lady Tan now! I'll keep an eye out for fruit :)

Melissa | 597 comments I Googled spices and herbs for mixed drinks and came up with these:
Cardamom
Cinnamon
Ginger
Basil
Rosemary
Dill
Tarragon
Mint
Lavendar
Cilantro
Coriander

There are probably a lot more out there too.

That sounds nice! Mine is a newer building with big windows and cozy reading areas. It has a cute little coffee spot inside as well.

Jotsmar M | 19 comments Hi Ladies!! checking in! how are you doing? i got some time right now so i will start looking for any book with a yellow cover =)

message 110: by Ingeborg (new)

Ingeborg (redrum) | 410 comments The mini looks fun! I finished a book on my way home today, and it happens to have a spice mentioned. So it works for the mini.

@Gwen - welcome to the team! :)

Melissa | 597 comments Hey Vicki!
I'm going to move your The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse by Louise Erdrich to the blue seven if that's okay?

message 115: by Vicki (last edited Feb 14, 2024 05:37PM) (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments OK, Melissa, thanks for telling me. I didn't put it there because TinEye only listed it as 43.6% blue. I thought it had to be 50%.

message 116: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 597 comments Yes, I checked it on tin-eye too - it looked more grey until I unchecked the exclude background - then it bumped up to 80%!
Strange that ours came out so different - oh well :) Let's go with 80 :) unless it is a different cover?

message 117: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments No, it's the same cover. That's why I don't like TinEye! It should come out the same or at least very close to the same. I also unchecked the exclude background. So strange. I hate it when it comes up like 49.3% or something similar. lol

The library down in the city center is quite cool - it has an old archeological dig site inside it. There was a medieval church there, so there are remains of walls (stone) and a few skeletons in glass cages. You walk across a bridge a meter or so above that stuff when entering through the older part of the building. Other than that it is a quite ordinary library, but decently large.

Melissa | 597 comments Happy half-way through February!
We are doing great.
We are getting through many of our color cards. If you have books that fit one of the colored card requirements, but that book is already taken, no fears! We have 3 Wild Draw 4s to claim. For each of those, we can repeat one colored card.
All of the rest of our books are filling in the slots nicely. A good way to check to see what we've finished, and where we are going is to look at the Official Tracker. That is in the links part of our spreadsheet.
You can also check out our points on the tracker. We are in 18th place - very nice - right in the middle.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments I have been kind of MIA since my last book that I read on Feb. 14. I just now added the names/letters it can be used for. Sorry about that but I had been not feeling well and just needed to take a break to feel better and not push myself. I'm better now and will make up the reading (or lack of it) in on time! :)

Aidy | 7 comments Boo to feeling unwell! Hope everyone is soon on the mend.

I have finished two books since the mini challenge started and was not sure how to offer spots for them?

So, I will do it here and if they can be of use in the mini challenge, good!

Best Friends Forever
page 34-"Val stood on tiptoes and extracted a bottle of vodka"--spirits
p248-"sipped her Diet Coke"--mixer
on my edition there was only black text

Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner

Bad Cree

page 152-"Two waters for us"-mixer? as in whiskey and water
page 152-"I'll have a Pepsi"-mixer? alternative to Rum and Coke?
page 152-"Auntie Verna orders Coors Light"-spirit-does a beer count?
page 8-"they gave me sage"-herbs were filled in, but this could work too?

Thanks Aidy!
I picked the black color for text for the first one, and Pepsi for the second one.
Good finds!

message 128: by Brigia (new)

Brigia | 51 comments Melissa, I just finished Love, Theoretically and it would work for the mini for either fruit ("We're just different breeds. Apples and oranges." - p 37) or spirit/mixers ("I sip the club soda I pretended to splash with gin" - p 122). I don't know where it's most useful :)

message 129: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 597 comments Excellent! I'll put it in mixers for now. I can always move it around.

We have 3 of the colored cards to duplicate, so if you see any of those, that would be awesome :)

Melissa | 597 comments @Dave I moved The Chalice of the Gods up to the Wild Draw 4 slot.
I'm reading a very light one for one of the yellows - good for recovering from illness :)
Just one more wild draw four for our special cards.
Good work team!

message 134: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 597 comments We're also doing well on the mini.
I just went snooping around other teams and saw that many are using words like "under" "over" - those prepositions. I'm thinking circle would work - like take the first right at the traffic circle - so I'll put that down for Lady Tan.

That black writing is tricky! I keep finding books with black writing on the cover and then there is one or two words like "a novel" that's in a different color!

Melissa | 597 comments Anyone reading anything they really like?
I am listening to my first Tracy Chevalier book - At the Edge of the Orchard
I'm really enjoying the different voices they use for the different characters and the ties back to nature and trees. I also really like the imperfect characters - and I like them enough to be interested in what will happen to them.

I'm currently reading the 7th installment in Susan Elizabeth Philipps series, Chicago Stars, all about famous athletes from the same team/city. So each book is a character from the universe. I've loved the series so far and each book has been great. I love that there are typically 2-3 storylines running concurrently with the two romantic leads and the important people in their life. I love her as an author.

Gwen|| Bookish Blondie (bookishblondie) | 48 comments I finished two more books today. I started my third one and will likely get it done today (yay for boring jobs where I get to read all day.) Then I'll start looking for books to help finish the mini and unfinished hands.

Melissa | 597 comments Hello Team!!
Happy weekend!
I've spent the week sick in bed, but I think I'm coming out of it....
Now is the time of reckoning! Will you be able to read the books you have on the tracker by THURSDAY? (Preferably Wednesday?)
Because even though it's a leap year, that's the end of February!

message 148: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 597 comments I'm hoping to finish mine - the only one I'm not sure of is Anxious People.

message 149: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 597 comments Our two big ones to keep an eye on are:
7 Green (Melissa, how is A Lesson in Murder coming?)
5 Red (Brigia, how is Ruby Fever?)
I have a few cozy mystery authors that usually have a colorful color or two that I can check on!
Also one might have black writing on it!

Melissa | 597 comments March hands have been posted!
I'll consolidate and give you the lowdown later today!
