message 104: by Melindam (last edited Jan 01, 2024 10:10AM) (new)

Melindam | 4431 comments I am wondering who is coming up with these "brilliant ideas of improvements" and who is approving them?

message 105: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1014 comments I just can't believe GR dev team looks at their user base and thinks: boy, I bet holidays will be a great time to adjust code and update servers. No readers will be using the site then!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Ugh I know, I have been waiting 2 months for the new challenges to start, ending wrap up goals for December, but the site is trying my patience for DAYS. And you know this is when they will get more site activity for people updating for their yearly challenge and setting the new one

It is scary is all day when on my home page, the "Update Progress" button is gone on all my currently reading books. I hope this is not a permanent change, as it was so easy before to update / end book / mark complete from there previously.

This is the same team the past few years who made challenge groups, especially for developers, annoying with removal of linsk outside goodreads, won't let me update my profile for over three years unless I remove images on it, did the new book design mobile page, and decided since they were adding the new category of Romantasy to the Awards, that they'd remove the categories for Children / Middle Grade, Poetry and Plays, and Graphic Novels.

Hardly any of their decisions make sense to me.

Yes. I saw people on Twitter complaining to GR a lot about the awards changes, but I have been through this for years and know they do not change their minds even if it upsets most of the user base.

People do it either way. I like to put them onto the UNO shelf as I start reading so that I don't forget when I mark it as read :)
Whatever works best for you

It's not permanent thankfully! This actually happens most years at year-end as Goodreads does maintenance at that time (this year's maintenance is from Dec. 29th to Jan. 8th). So that's why the button disappeared and why the site is giving the error page so frequently.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Okay, good to know!

message 117: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Goodreads definitely should be more open about the fact they're doing maintenance which would help. I only know since it's posted in the Librarians Group each year as they have to take down the combine/separate function during it.

Thankfully there is a workaround to still update your progress, it's just annoying not being able to do it from the homepage.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Just seems like one of the worst times of the year to do it due to holidays, more time off from school/work, all the new yearly challenges --- but perhaps the timing is part of the new yearly challenges rolling out, but ugh.

Hi Anna, Uno is my favorite. The best place to start is the All About Uno 2024 thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Once you have a team your team captains will be able to answer any questions.

PS - I've been eyeing off those 2 NF books also - I've got the Phillipa Gregory on order from my library too - but I think I'll keep the David Mitchell on the TBR for when I need a letter U!

message 141: by UNO Pixie, Our UNO Helper (new)

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments Looking for colour covers for books?

Here are the links to our uno coloured shelves. It would be great if you can add any books you find to these shelves, or "recommend" the book to the pixie and we can add it.
This helps keep our own little database of cover colours for UNO :)

red covers
blue covers
green covers
yellow covers

Important note
Some books on this list may not seem like the colour cover. This is because GR will show the default version. There may be a specific version that has been shelved that is the actual colour. The version you read is what you should shelve, and is what counts, for UNO

Note: If you also like to shelve coloured covers, you can shelve coloured books as these shelf names:
uno-yellow
uno-green
uno-red
uno-blue

:)
