sorry, Connie! I thought I picked for the correct person...do you still need picks?
I know the 30th is repick day, but can someone nudge the person who is supposed to pick for me? Or can a mod pick for me instead?
I have messaged (earlier today) both of the remaining people who have yet to post their picks. Can we line up two people for picks if those aren't posted by tomorrow morning? Who wants to pick for Jenny and Penumbra?
Update - we only need someone for Penumbra now.

Sorry Carrie - it was already done this morning. The 30th is the day for repicks because sometimes people are unavailable to do their picks right away and it's hard for people to wait. You had been paired with Penumbra but I switched it to VampAmber when she stepped up earlier.
Holidays are a busy time and it's hard to know what is going on with people. We do our best.

No problem, Kathy. Things were rearranged a bit, and we're all set. Thanks for checking.
Penumbra's January Completion Post
Rating: 3 Stars

This turned out to be a reread for me from years back. Writing style was too distant, and there was a lot of sex in this for a Christmas story. It was just okay.

I liked this. It had good character growth. However, this is a spin off of another series, so there is an info dump of too many other characters near the beginning that had me lost.
I finished both of my books.Thirst by Andrey Gelasimov, 1/7/24 - 3 stars. This was kinda meh - I would have liked better character development. The main character's situation is rushed over and it could have been more of a focal point. The friends were just props. And the ending was very weak, no payoff for what little drama there was. I hope that this was a lost-in-translation situation, because the plot deserves better treatment.
The Tower by Simon Toyne, 1/14/24 - five stars. He's such a good storyteller. Since it had been a minute between reading the first two books of the trilogy and the finale, I scrambled a bit to catch up with the scenario. It's quite a final story. I gave it five stars. This was a very original plot line, in my opinion. A lot of authors have reworked it since.
Sadly, all three of my books were DNFs but they are now off my list and I have had some stellar reads this month so it all evens out.
I finished all three picks for January. Thanks, Karen, for picking such enjoyable books--I rated each of them 4 stars.Karen ♐ picked for me:
BONUS:
Shot on Gold by Jaci Burton - 1/8/24 ♥♥♥♥
The Wary Widow by Barbara Hazard - 1/14/24 ♥♥♥♥
Billion Dollar Enemy by Olivia Hayle - 1/20/24 ♥♥♥♥
I read this month's pick of
. I almost DNF-ed it, but then I turned the page at 192 and got totally sucked in. This is pick for me but I have no desire to read any more n the series.⭐⭐⭐

Review - You ever have a MC that you want to grab them by their pony tail and swing them around until you can activate some brain cells? How about when you get second hand embarrassment from them being super cringy or really really stupid? Rosalind is that MC. She apparently has some great power that The Brotherhood can't live without, but she is also a fuck-up and is in danger of being thrown out because she screwed up 3 hunts. So which is it? I quit @ the 35% mark and every decision she made up till then was incredibly stupid. I have way to many books on my list to be this frustrated with a character who is TSTL.
