Amanda Dawn | 265 comments I'm going with "Waterland" by Graham Swift which is about the English Fenlands and has themes about the importance of nature to history.

"Walden" also seems like a clear choice, "Voss" is also one I'd recommend (it takes place in the Australian Outback and kind of becomes a character in its own right).

Monika (eskimonika) | 8 comments I loved Waterland! One of my favourite reads this year.

Are books set on ships allowed?

I need help with this topic."

Mercedes, there are plenty of books set on the high seas. On top of my head; Moby Dick, Rites of Passage, the Voyage Out (my pick), Sandokan and Captain Blood if you want to go pirate-y.
Wuthering Heights, Out of Africa and the Birds by Vesaas for sure, and if I remember correctly, Smilla's Sense of Snow and the Poisonwood Bible should be wilderness-y enough.

I was just wondering if that would fit the prompt! I'm reading that for this challenge too.

Journey to the Alcarria would fit. The narrator does spend some time in towns but a lot in the countryside,

Dusklands is made up of 2 stories. The hunting expedition would definitely fit.
