I am still holding onto the notion of "I Kill Killers" to meet that criteria. Several others have been exceptionally good. But unless a book drops in my lap better than "I Kill Killers", that is my vote.
Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy
We, the Drowned, by Danish author Carsten Jensen--an historical fiction about the seaside village of Marstal, Denmark, and three generations of sailors caught up in endless wars from 1845 through WWII. So much truth, so much HEART in this story!
The Secret Life Of Bees. Missed out on this book when it was new and I went into knowing nothing. It surprised me. I don't know what it was exactly that I absolutely loved about this book, but, somehow, I gave it a 5 star. And I will be rereading it. That's the kind of book I look for. A reread.

The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin. Scifi, dystopian, but also some fantasy elements that made it just *chef's kiss*. Written by a WOC, with a majority of the cast being POC.
And the brains that it took to put this together! The plot seemed so simple at the start, with the magic elements being the difficult part to seam together. But then the plot started plotting!
The Obelisk Gate, the second book in the series, answers so many questions, while creating so many more at the same time. I'm holding off on the final book in the trilogy because I want to extend the feeling of the series as long as possible. But I'm also so ready to see how the story plays out.
But it's the first book, The Fifth Season, for me.

It's so hard to pick just one book because there are so many! So, I chose The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah.
Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. I'm reading it for the 4th time and it's absolutely lovely!
Assistant to the villain was my fun, enjoyable five star read and All the Shadows we Lost was my genuine five star read
