Darkpaw wanders in, followed by Frostpaw. He curls up and grins ruefully at Frostpaw. She gives him a small, shy smile in return.
"Frostpaw?" he says into the steadily growing shadows.
"Yeah?"
"Who's mentoring you? I mean, there are no other available warriors."
"Oh," Frostpaw sounds surprised. "I thought you knew. I'm metered by Ravenleaf and Lilydawn. Ravenleaf was a medicine cat, but she was trained as a warrior before that."
"What Clan are they from?" Darkpaw asks curiously.
"StarClan. How do think I'm getting mentored?"
"I never thought about it," Darkpaw meows apologetically. "Sorry." His voice comes out sounding sheepish.
A rustling of leaves sounds. Frostpaw's light gray shape pads up next to him. She sits down in the nest next to his. "Y'know, if you wanted to talk, you should have just told me." Her voice sounds clear and sweet.
Darkpaw's heart speeds up. "I should have." He tries to inject a bit of casual laughter in his voice. "But um… I wasn't exactly feeling chatty outside."
Frostpaw's laugh echoes through the den. Suddenly Darkpaw is seized by a desire to be nearer to her. The two apprentices talk until the den is so dark that they can't see each other. After a while, Frostpaw falls asleep. Darkpaw listens to her breathing a few minutes, then gets up and curls his body around hers. Their tails link, and Darkpaw hears a soft sigh from Frostpaw. Without a second thought, the two fall asleep, just like that, in that same position.

Lightpaw sleepily walks into the den. Dapplemoon has just forced her to create and recreate a medicine to cure burns. Sighing, Lightpaw walks out quickly to retrieve a squirrel and secures it into her mouth. The camp is deserted, for it was near night. The sun was out of sight, the moon up in the sky. Suddenly, a dark figure looms above her.
"What are you doing up at this hour?" Briarflower comments, looking down on the small cat. Lightpaw turns up and dips her head in regard and touches noses with the warrior.
"Dapplemoon has just sent me off from learning a new herb recipe. She kept making me redo the herb recipe to make sure I got it right. She was impressed with my work. I decided to go to the den, but my stomach got the better of me. I'm only eating for a bit and going to bed. How is Rosepaw?
Briarflower smiles. "Oh, she is very well, thank you. I haven't started training yet, but I have spent some time with her, trying to getting to know her. She's a feisty one, that one." Briarflower laughs, Lightpaw joining in.
Rosepaw was quite annoying. She kept asking questions after question, not bothering for an answer. But Briarflower didn't mind. The feistier, the better!
Brairflower sighs and says, "The Gathering is approaching. I was thing of asking Dappemoon to let you go. I mean, I think you are worthy. You are respectful, quiet, and generous. I heard a ShadowClan queen is about to give birth to kits in a few moons." Brairflower glows, happy that another queen will soon have kits. Oh, the joy of having kits. maybe one day, she'll have kits.
"But you, Lightpaw, ought to go to bed. It's near midnight, and I'm on night patrol. Go on, shoo. Out of here before an owl swoops down and catches you." Briarflower gently nudges Lightpaw into the Apprentice Den.
When Lightpaw was in the den, she saw Frostpaw and Darkpaw with their bodies enter twined. She sighed, her eyes growing sad. One day, Lightpaw would not be able to have kits or feel the joy of being a mother. But no thinking like that, she scolded herself. I will be the mother of the clan, the helper of all. Still, that didn't seem to comfort her. With this last thought, she drifted off to a deep sleep.

Frostpaw stirs sleepily. She sees Lightpaw watching her with sad eyes. Darkpaw's breath is warm on the back of her neck. Sighing, she decides she will ask her friend about her troubles. With that thought, Frostpaw falls back into a deep sleep.
Lightpaw sees Frostfur stir. She wanted to move, move her body. But she couldn't. It was sad to see that two likely friends would most likely one day be together and have kits. Tears came into Lightpaw's eyes. She moved over to the farthest side of the den, where no cat could see her cry.
Frostpaw see the glistening tears sliding down Lightpaw's face. "Lightpaw? Lightpaw, what's wrong?" she calls softly, not wanting to disturb Darkpaw.
Lightpaw's lip trembled and her eyes were glistening with tears. Her body finally moved, but not toward her friend. She quietly responded. "I-i-it's nothing, really. just some troubles. I mean look at you to." Lightpaw smiles. "You two are like, perfect together. When I become medicine cat, I can't have a family." Her voice broke and she cried silently into her bed.
"Emotional or… physical?" Frostpaw's voice shakes on the last word. "Please tell me, Lightpaw, I only want to help."
Lightpaw lifted her head, and her eyes seemed to dig into their sockets. "Oh it's none of them… well, it's physical." Lightpaw said sheepishly, trying to cover up her sleepiness. "It's just, well, Dapplemoon is really working me to my limits. I love doing this, it is just so hard." Lightpaw looks over at Frostpaw and smiles. "Lucky for me, I have you guys to help me out."
"Have you eaten? have you had any kind of rest?" Frostpaw's eyes glint in the dawn light.
Lightpaw looked sheepishly at Frostpaw. "No not really. I mean, I can't sleep. I've only had a squirrel and haven't eaten for days." Lightpaw grunts and gets up and pads over to the other cat. She yawns. "But it si fine with me… I me…" With an unsaid thought in her mind, lightpaw fell asleep.
Frostpaw stares one moment at her friend's pale form. Then she gets up, sliding gently from Darkpaw's embrace. She pads over to medicine cat den.
"Rosepaw!" Frostpaw comes out her daze. "Um, I was just going to Dapplemoon. Stomach ache." With that Frostpaw runs across the clearing, towards the direction of the medicine cat clearing. She hides in the bushes. "Now is not the time to talk with Rosepaw!" Frostpaw scolds herself. She sneaks to the river, where she can be alone with her thoughts.
Lightpaw tramps into the clearing. She sees Rosepaw. "Hi Rosepaw. Back from training?"
Darkpaw stirs. "Frostpaw?" he calls out to the empty den. However, she is gone. He tracks her scent, and realizes she is heading in the direction of the river.
"Lightpaw!" Dapplemoon calls. "Lightpaw! Come to the river! Quickly!" Then Dapplemoon is gone, her spotted yellow form streaming towards the direction of the river.

Darkpaw and Frostpaw bound into the den. Frostpaw dips her head in acknowledgment. Darkpaw smiles and says, "Willowstar! How are you?"

Darkpaw dips his head and licks Forstpaw's wet side. "Just ran into a little trouble. I'm okay, though. Not sure about Frostpaw." He smiles this time.
"Okay!" Frostpaw eagerly agrees. "I'll make sure your apprentice isn't late, like he usually is for training."
Darkpaw throws Frostpaw a look. "Don't worry. We'll be there."
Darkpaw throws Frostpaw a look. "Don't worry. We'll be there."
Lughtpaw races out to the river with Dapplemoon, her coat sleek and shiny. The sun it her, and she nearly collapsed of heat. But she put one paw in front of another and before she knew it, she was looking down at the lake. Dapplemoon sat next to her, panting from all the running.

Darkpaw and Frostpaw come in, chattering happily. "Did you see that?" Darkpaw asks. "Dapplemoon will be okay!" he says.
Frostpaw give a shy nod. "Um, Darkpaw…" she says softly. "Um… can we… you know, sleep together again? I'm really worried about Dapplemoon and Lightpaw…" The words come out in a tumble.
"So you want me there to comfort you?" Darkpaw asks.
Frostpaw nods. That's the thing I like about Darkpaw, she thinks, he says the things you're afraid to think even though he's sometimes afraid to. That's courage. She gives Darkpaw a quick smile.
Darkpaw lies down in his mossy nest. "Come on!" he meows to Frostpaw. Frostpaw slides quickly next to Darkpaw's body. His warmth seeps over her and heats her heart up so that is works again. Some of the fear in it leaves. A quick lick from Darkpaw leaves a shiver of heat on the back of her neck. Frostpaw closes her eyes, letting the darkness fill her, images racing from behind closed eyelids.
"Darkpaw?" Frostpaw whispers to the Darkpaw.
"Yeah?"
"Do you think we're ready to become warriors?"
"Why?" Darkpaw's low voice is filled with playfulness.
"Well, y'know, we've been training for six moons now."
"Mmm, probably. I'll ask Willowstar."
Soon the deep breathing of the two sleeping apprentices fills the den.

Darkpaw stretches and licks Frostpaw awake. She blinks and yawns, giving him a quick smile. "Hey, Inkpaw," she meowed blearily.

As she mentioned fish, Inkpaw's claws stretched out menacingly. "Sorry about that," she said sheepishly, retracting them.
Darkpaw lashed his tail playfully and pounced on Inkpaw. "Not a problem- I want to get my claws out, too, sometimes. Let's do this!"
Frostpaw, being more peaceful, had backed away a bit and settled down to watch. "Go for the head, Inkpaw!" she meowed at one point, and then, "Darkpaw! Watch your claws! You don't want to hurt anyone!'

Darkpaw went limp. With a quick pawswipe her threw the smaller cat off him and pinned her to the ground by the stomach. Frostpaw got up and licked his ear. "Let's go," she said to the other two and headed out of the den.
"She's fine," Darkpaw said aloud, somewhat dizzily.

Darkpaw leads Frostpaw in with a quick, rueful grin. He curls up on his nest, but Frostpaw walks over to her friend's nest and put the leaf right in front of it. Then she went and lay down next to Darkpaw, falling asleep almost immediately.

Frostpaw leapt to her feet. Beside her, Darkpaw was still sleeping. He twitched, but nothing more. "Imkpaw!" Frostpaw hissed. "You scared me half to StarClan!"

Frostpaw ran her tail lightly along Inkpaw's spine. "Did he say anything about Mothkit?"
"Oh." Frostpaw shook herself off, trying to regain her composure. "I wasn't supposed to say anything. Let's go and meet this Thunderclan cat."
Darkpaw yaned qnd got to his feet. He nuzzled Frostpaw's side and turned to Inkpaw. "Can't we see him today?"
"You heard that, didn't you?" Frostpaw asked sheepishly.
Darkpaw grinned. "Every single word."
