The Outsiders
question
What did you think of the ending of The Outsiders? Was it a good ending? Or was it a cop out?

I enjoyed the ending of the book. I think it wraps it up nicely for the reader. It's circular and creates this feeling that it could continue for a while. Usually, I think this is an overused trope, but it fits nicely for this book.
Is there anything you wished you would have seen differently?

I think the ending is important because it shows Ponyboy's growth as he re-integrates himself into his school work. School was such a small side plot to the text, but it was a small part of a larger story. Ponyboy has the opportunity to rise above what is expected of the Greasers and I think thats a large part of what "stay gold" means to Johnny :)
For me the ending could not have been better in any way. Having grown up in those years, it was very true to life.
That Was Then, This is Now followed The Outsiders, another well written, true to life experience holding an ending in reality.
