Now should you listen to The Smiths and if so, where do you start? Well, they might not be for everyone, but I do think you should give them a listen.
If you don't know who The Smiths are, they're an 80s band from Britain who was kind of a counter response to the synth pop at the time, they sound a lot like synth pop, but they refused to use any synths. They're also considered one of the forefathers of indie rock and emo, and they are a heavy inspiration on what's now Midwest emo.
Where do I think you should start?: The Queen is Dead. Their first albums were a little bit rough around the edges, and this was the last album that they had released before they started having a lot of band troubles. The band considered their last album,Strangeaways,Here We Come, as their best one,but I think that it's this one.
Also if there's any band or artist you suggest me to talk about, let me know and I'll talk about them.
