Laurel Bradshaw (llawryf) | 617 comments Since I have roughly 16 lists going in my Individual Challenge thread, I thought I would pick one book from each list for this challenge. I probably will mostly forget to update this thread, since I keep track of all my reading (including this challenge and the cover color challenge) on my own thread. That way I only have to remember one place to update everything!

1. Behind Closed Doors
Themes: 2024 Main Theme: Laurel Opens a New Door

READ 2. The Secret Garden
Themes: Secondary Theme: Garden titles, in honor of all the gardening I plan to do in my new yard in 2024

3. Light to the Hills
Themes: carried over from 2023: Keeping It Light

4. The Penelopiad
Themes: The Odyssey: I keep listing this theme and never starting it. I did pick a different title this year for this challenge...

5. 1932
Themes: Random Picks from Old Themes: this one is a new book added under an old theme, Pride and Prejudice

6. One for Sorrow
Time and Place: The Ancient World. This is a new mini-theme this year with most of the titles taken from The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Ultimate Reading List. This title is not from that book however. It is an old leftover that I started at one time, set in 6th century Byzantium.

7. Lady Macbeth
Time and Place: Macbeth/Vikings

8. Bloodline
Time and Place: Wars of the Roses

9. The Long Walk Home
Time and Place: Random Picks: Wales/Welsh authors and/or Arthurian fiction

10. Queen of the North
Time and Place: Random Picks: Historical fiction

READ 11. The Blue Mountains and Other Gaelic Stories from Cape Breton = Na Beanntaichean Gorma agus Sgeulachdan Eile Ceap Breatainn
Time and Place: Random Picks: Other fiction (20th century or later/Sci Fi/Fantasy

12. Wanderland
Time and Place: Random Picks: Non-fiction
-------------------------------------------------------
13. Dead Water
Series: Next to read in an ongoing series

READ 14. Books Can Be Deceiving
Series: 1st book in a new series

15. The Evening Chorus
Leftovers: started but not finished

16. Her Royal Spyness
Leftovers: not started but carried over from 2023

And there you have it. For more on these lists, you can see my thread at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Not familiar with most of these; but I am with the authors. I will have to check these out, as I spy a mystery or two?

Good luck and happy reading Laurel. 📚📚

Lea (leaspot) | 3636 comments The Secret Garden was a childhood favorite of mine and I reread it six or seven years ago (I try to reread some childhood favorites every year) and I thought it held up. I hope you enjoy your choices. I think picking one from each list is a good way to make progress on everything. Good luck! :-)

The Secret Garden was wonderful. Hope you enjoy. The Penepoliad was an interesting take on the Odysseus story.

Laurel Bradshaw (llawryf) | 617 comments I knew I would forget I had a thread here... Updated message #1 to mark the three books I have read so far. I'm planning on starting Bloodline soon. Debating whether or not I need to reread the first two in the series. It has been awhile. By the way, I should say that I have read at least 8 books from different lists from my individual thread, just not THESE books. Ha ha!
