I always appreciated how the members of Tool refused to discuss the meaning of any song. They usually gave an answer like "it means whatever the listener thinks it means", never limiting the song to any one theme or inner message. They created a bit of mystery around the music that still resonates.

Album ranking.
1: Aenema (1996)
2 Lateralus ( 2001)
3 1000 Days (2006)
4 Undertow ( 1993)
5 Fear Inoculum ( 2019)
6 Opiate ( 1992)
Where do I think you should start: Lateralus. It has their best known song on their, Schism and it has less 10 minute songs than the other albums. But if you want the traditional Tool sound, start with Aenema.
