I am up to Chapter 34 but I started before you.
(view spoiler)[Okay, when Maritsa Olsen was killed I thought it was her husband because she seemed to recognize her killer when she looked back at them before she was forced to jump. But later I thought it was Elias when he was acting creepy around that Stine woman. But now Elias is dead too - but I don't see what the connection would be between him and Maritsa's husband. So now I'm not sure what to think. But this is pretty typical for a Jo Nesbo mystery - they are so dark and chilling, and complicated. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished Chap 26 last night! (I've ended up taking in my friend's mam's dog now until Sunday - he's adorable but young and clingy in a new place)

Harry's dad asking him to help him end his life when the time comes was heartbreaking. I like how the reference to "the one thing I couldn't do for her" earlier was brought back.

I wonder if Stine is going to be coming back in the story more, will she have more of a significance? What did Elias know and how did he know of the connection??

I do like Jo Nesbo's writing! I've only read a few of his books but there's something with the balance of hero who always gets the job done and bad things happen to them I enjoy

Oh I think you will love this series then! His writing is very dark but so, so good. I usually have to give myself a bit of a break after I finish one because they are so intense.
I agree that the scene with Harry's dad is heartbreaking. And despite Harry's struggles with alcohol you see how intensely devoted he is to him.
Not sure about Stine coming back. I know Elias was at that cabin with the other victims but it's a bit odd that the killer went for a male victim this time. Most of Nesbo's victims are female - so like you say, Elias must have known something.

I'm expecting his dad to go at some part in the story... wonder how it'll change Harry

I got through chapter 54 last night. I've reached the tipping point where I probably won't be able to put it down now. That's how these go for me.
(view spoiler)[So now I'm pretty sure the killer is the Canadian cop Krongli. It totally chills me that Kaja was alone in that cabin with him earlier on. I'm wondering what other twists are coming, as there are still a little more than two hundred pages to go and everyone from the cabin except the Australian woman has been killed.

Also wondering how much more Harry can be beaten up - he's missing a middle finger (from the last book). He also has a badly hurt jaw which also must have been from the last book but I don't remember. Or maybe it happened between books when he was in Hong Kong. At any rate, he's taken quite a lot of damage.

I was pretty upset that Kaja had betrayed Harry to Kripos. And rather disgusted that he then had sex with her, knowing that. Yuck. (hide spoiler)]

Oh dear God. Just finishing Chapter 61 now. Plot is so twisted and crazy I can't believe it!! You will love this.

I finished today. Absolutely amazing - I thought I knew what was going on but NOPE. As usual Jo Nesbo leaves you guessing right up to the end. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.
Now a breather before I plunge in to the next one!

fully agree - this is where my head is as well!

I really don't get why Harry and Kaja had sex like cmon.... she just admitted to betraying you to the guy who wants to shut down your unit why!!

I know he won't be dead because he's the main character but not much more can happen to him and he survive. There has to be a limit??

I just finished this morning!! I have so many thoughts but I'll need to wait until I'm home to write them fully lol

He does it to me every time - after they arrested Sig Altman there were still 100 pages to go, so I knew something really bad was still going to happen. Never saw coming the end stuff!!
I'm not sure I follow exactly how Harry got the Leopold's apple out of his mouth. His face has to be a frightening mess now.
I wonder if he'll stay sober this time in Hong Kong. Somehow I doubt it. His battle with alcoholism seems to drive this series in part.

The fact there was 100+ pages left at that point really did add to the tension it was realy well written! I enjoyed the style and messiness with all the people - maybe it's a bit over the top in places but real life is all over the place so I liked it.
