   I want to believe she was aware of the curse and all the deaths that had occurred and that she wanted one of the twins to have a normal life.

     I don't think she was a very good person. One child is hard enough to deal with two, would have put her out too much. I didn't get a sense that she loved either boy.

     I agree that Patricia didn't come across as a very sympathetic character, but I can't see why she would keep one twin and adopt out the other. These were not poor people. They had resources to be able to care for and raise both boys.
