Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 756 comments I just noticed the laser beams. Seems like Donut might be getting some kind of sniper class? Would explain why she is in the background.

Nirkatze | 21255 comments Some commenters were thinking maybe she was singing or buffing, or it was some kind of aura... sniper works just as well...

Ann-Marie | 5570 comments Yeah can you imagine Donut with a sniper laser? So here for that!

Nirkatze | 21255 comments OMG yes!

Did you read or listen?… they got Patrick Warburton to voice Carl’s dad and Alpha Carl in the climax of the plot… Jeff Hayes voice for Carl is inspired by Warburton’s deep baritone…

I support this lol

Nirkatze | 21255 comments The audio for DCC are pretty awesome--if you ever wanted to try audiobooks, these would be a good place to start...

Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 756 comments Leahhh wrote: "Im always eye reading, sadly audiobooks are not for me"

I found my love for audiobooks when I started taking care of my own house. All those chores are way easier while listening to some cool book.

Ann-Marie | 5570 comments I feel like this would be a good audiobook to try for the first time since it is so stupid, OTT and fun. My first audiobook was The Lightning-Struck Heart and it is the same, ridiculous characters, snarky banter and fun :)

Nirkatze | 21255 comments Leahhh wrote: "Naww you would’ve absolutely made me give it a try. I’d love to listen to audiobooks, it seems quite time efficient. And all the books I could’ve read just this month already! no need to decide bet..."

Ah, that's a bummer. Sounds kind of like audio dyslexia. Must be a pain in conversations. You read really fast for 100% eye-reading!

Marie Chalupová (levitara) | 756 comments That's a real shame. I think I have very very mild version of that as I noticed I have harder time making out what people say sometimes when there is distraction. Like I have to repeat the noise in my head to get the words out. Never felt it's so complicating my life I would need a diagnosis so I never heard about the disorder.

Isn't there a way of improving the condition with like slow audio and reading while listening? I just searched fast and found that could be the case. Idk if your specific case can be helped by that ofc. I would guess that even with improvement it would still not be such a good experience.

You do seem to read very fast. I prefer eye reading way more than audio. It's just a way to get to some lower priority reads for me. I am quite slow reader so I would be able to get through that many books. I don't get the full enjoyment by listening. Hard for me to remember and process what I don't see.

Nirkatze | 21255 comments I wish people came with subtitles...

The DCC audio is almost worth watching with subtitles... just seeing Jeff Hayes in an audio booth going from British Posh accent for Donut to growly for Carl is a treat... check out the Soundbooth Theater youtube channel for some fun clips... This one is one of my favorites:

The way this made me want to re-listen immediately! Honestly, Samantha is HILARIOUS and I <3 her so much!!!!! Also in 1 million years I so would not have pictured the narrator looking like that lol

Sometimes I wish I didn't loath Graphics Audio... but I do... and some audiobooks only exist on audio as graphics audio... I've resigned myself to missing out, until I find time for more ebooks or they come to regular audio...

Ann-Marie | 5570 comments When I do my series re-read I'll be getting the graphic audio of this one. It is different for sure but since the Carl & Donut voices are staying the same I think I will be okay with the new version.

Same. DCC is my ideal for narration. Enriched performance but without stuff that makes it hard to understand. I only tried graphic audio for Mistborn re-read and didn't even get through the intro, the music bugged me... I did listen to the Original by Sanderson and that one was interesting experience.

Ann-Marie | 5570 comments Leahhh wrote: "That clip looks good! He’s doing the different voices really nice I understand why you like it. What’s a graphic audio though? 🙈😂"

Generally there is 1, maybe 2 narrators performing an audiobook but a graphic audio will have a full cast with like 10 or so narrators. plus including music and/or sound effects, kind of like the radio serials that happened way back in the day. We did a BR and I listened to the graphic audio and the narrator included chewing which is so gross because I hate when people chew with their mouth open /gag It didn't happen a lot thankfully lol

Nirkatze | 21255 comments Graphic Audio is also the name of the company that started doing audio like this--Soundbooth Theater is DCC's narrator's company, and they're calling their version "cinematic audio" but it's essentially the same thing...

I think those types of audio could do with quieter music (or none) and cut down on gross noises like chewing or sex-moaning... But I love having full-cast narration... I actually really like the way the regular DCC books are done, with some sound effects and guest narrators--and a very versatile main narrator... I'm curious to see what their "Cinematic Audio" does differently....

I listened to the Demon Cycle on Graphic Audio and really enjoyed it--it was good for early audiobook practice, when I was having trouble getting into stories or paying attention...

Wait until you get to the Verania books! My first ever audio and Michael Lesley is just so good and just know that as the series continues and more characters are added he manages to have distinctive voices for all. It's kind of like a full cast audio of 1 :)

Also obligatory recommendation to listen to the Sandman audios, full cast and just absolute perfection <3

You guys could always try Dungeon Crawler Darryl: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/333...

No audio, it's on Royal Road... Matt Dinniman gave permission to write in the same world... fanfic / companion story about different delvers in same world...

I was looking for suggestions on reddit, similar to DCC, and someone mentioned DCD... also Drew Hayes books, and Dakota Krout's Full Murderhobo series... nothing truly matches everything about DCC, just certain aspects...

Ann-Marie | 5570 comments I feel like if I go into a series comparing it to DCC it will not go well and that is entirely on me and the fact I struggle managing my own expectations. That being said Full Murderhobo doesn't sound terrible lol

Ann-Marie | 5570 comments Look what got here today!!!! <3

The cards are a slow burn aspect of the floor... given their mostly consumable nature, they're not worth using in every situation... iirc, they get a training area at some point, that lets them practice with some cards without losing them, and helps prep for the inevitable shit hitting the fan situation at the end of each book...

Narilka | 5731 comments Yeah, I've listened to the practice scene. It's a wait and see thing for me.

Ann-Marie | 5570 comments I didn't mind the card game being integrated in this one, I was still playing WoW when they released the card gam based on those characters and while I wasn't hugely invested I had fun playing it :)

Funny enough, the name of that god that sounds like Ogum (no idea real spelling) reminds me of the god that Fluffbear worshiped in the Threadbear series.

I have actually said that to a couple friends lol They think I'm nuts, especially when I laugh so much after though the one who I talked into reading the books thinks it's hilarious lol My husband is wrapping up book 3 so he doesn't get it yet though he knows it's related to DCC somehow.

Narilka | 5731 comments I picked up a hardback copy of the first book :) Some of the chapter headers have little doodles and there's bonus material titled "Backstage at the Pineapple Cabaret" that I plan to read this weekend. With any luck Dinniman will come to a future Dragoncon and I can get this signed :)
