TerryJane | 4020 comments A GUIDE TO THE 2024 YEARLY CHALLENGES

We are offering 15 yearly challenges for 2024 – ten member favorites which are back by popular demand, plus five new ones to try, most of which are based on our members’ suggestions!

Below you will find an alphabetical list of brief challenge descriptions. Links to the challenges will be added as they are posted.

Incidentally, we also offer shorter challenges related to our quarterly and monthly themes. Please visit the 2024 Member Challenge Ideas thread to share your ideas or learn about being a challenge leader.

-------------------------------------------------------------

A-Z CHALLENGE: Read a book for each letter of the alphabet, using the first letter of any main word in your book titles. Get ready to letter rip!

BIBLIOPOLY: Inspired by the classic board game, these prompts are related to property colors, game tokens, and group activities, as well as book, author and character traits. Take a turn around the game board!

BOOKWORMS TAKE SHELFIES: This challenge encourages you to be "shelfish" about your reading. Organize your reading around 20 virtual bookshelves. Freely fine-tune your shelves to fit your reading tastes and plans. Take a shelfie!

CLEAR THE SHELVES: Are your bookshelves, ebook storage, and audiobook devices groaning under the weight of many unread books? Clear unread books from your physical and virtual shelves with this popular challenge.

DEWEY DECIMAL: Let Mr. Dewey’s library classifications and subclassifications inspire your reading as you enjoy a bit of shelf-indulgence in 2024.

FINISH LINE: Cross the finish line by creatively using your book titles to finish incomplete quotes related to the group themes, first and last lines from books, opening lines of song lyrics, or idioms.

GENRE BINGO: Use the bingo card provided, make a custom card, or create one based on our yearly theme runners-up. Next, read books to make your goal of bingos, books, or both.

I’M WITH THE BANNED: Choose one or more of your favorite things for this open challenge, then use the starting letters of banned or challenged book titles and author names to spell-it-out.

IT’S IN THE CARDS: For this challenge, we will read books that represent the meanings, names, or images from a deck of Tarot cards. What’s in the cards for you in 2024?

LET’S TURN PAGES: This challenge tracks the pages you read, whether you read a novella or a chunkster. For audiobooks, use the page count for the latest hardcover edition. Choose a goal and let's turn pages!

MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR: Read crime fiction or true crime to solve cases – who, what, where, why, when, and how? Reach the top domestic rank, then travel the world for the bonus INTERPOL level. Let’s get our sleuth on!

OUT ON A LIMB: Grow one giant tree or a forest of smaller trees in this open challenge. Begin with a book for your trunk, add related books as branches, and further expand with leaves if you wish. The potential is un-be-leaf-able!

POPSUGAR: We've brought over the prompt-based 2024 PopSugar Reading Challenge, so you can track your progress with fellow group members. There are 40 standard prompts and 10 bonus prompts. How many will pop up on your reading list?

SERIAL READER: This challenge is all about serial reading. Set your yearly goal to start new series, continue or finish series you’ve previously begun, or read an entire series from start to finish. Get serious about your series!

TBR JAR: Tackle your mountain of TBR (To-Be-Read) books by randomizing your shelf, following prompts, or using an internet generator to select your next book. Write titles on paper and draw them from a jar, or just give your books a virtual shake-up.
