Possibly juvenile fiction, main character is a girl who is very picky about her trail mix. Must have banana chips and chocolate chips, and no nuts, ever. (A quote I remember from the book is “…and no nuts, ever!”) she possibly makes the trail mix with her mother.
Synesthesia (seeing sounds, smelling colors, etc) is also a main theme in this series, with a main character boy having synesthesia and is highly desirable.
Villain is a man who wants to find the boy?
