Richard | 5 comments I listened to the audiobook version of this story about 7-10 years ago.. I want to read the book

it starts off with humans being sent to a prison/work camp on what I remember to be like mining trains with flat cars.... once in the camp the main charater is sent to work making plastic bits... he see people freeze to death in the streets at night and eventually ends up working with (I want to say ) the camp doctor. My mind is so fuzzy on the details I wish I had more.

Thanks in advance

Edit: Never mind, that's way too new.

When you say "humans," does that imply that there are non-human characters in this book?

Richard | 5 comments no, sorry for that.... no extra terrestrials

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments There's a story like that, but it's end of WWII, czech(?) officer gets sent to Siberia, but doesn't make plastic, makes skis. Not so many streets in the concentration camp, but there is the freezing to death, middle of nowhere, trains (and lots of walking).

If you're interested, I'll dig up the title.

Thank you ,but that is not it. I think it was a one or two word title. This is so frustrating....

You all are awesome

Richard, is this book for younger or older adults?

What's the genre - historical fiction, science fiction, dystopian, fantasy, etc.?

I believe it was for young adults maybe 11th or 12th grade level. I would classify it as Dystopian

I really wish I had more to go on...

If I could only remember who recommended it in the first place..

Michele | 2488 comments Do you recall why people were sent to this camp (e.g., did they commit some crime, were they dissidents)? At the time you listened to it, do you have any idea if it was a new book at the time or an older one? Any idea if it was a bestseller? Do you recall what country it was set in -- US, UK, Australia, Europe? Do you remember how old the main character was?

Richard | 5 comments @ Michele. Not sure on the age of the book when i experienced it. I believe it was set in the Midwest (US) and the main character i believe was early 20s...

Thank you
