Can I just check whether we are able to count liquids under the banner of food or are we following the strict food/drink separation for this one?

message 254: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Let's stick to food/drink separation.

Lanelle | 4019 comments I've been looking through my books for a bridge on the cover and found this -
description

I think it's a very fancy bridge. Maybe. Opinions, please?

message 257: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments It looks like an old stone bridge to me.

Ariane | 947 comments Hello,
I have a question for Tour of Slovania, Croatia, and Bosnia Checkpoint 3 - Opatija: Read a book where the character goes on holiday to a beach resort.

In my book Something in the Water, they go to a beach resort, the story starts there, but then they go back home before the middle of the book.
Does the main book setting have to be the beach resort? Or the fact that they go there is enough? Thank you!

message 262: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments We generally use a 50% guideline for setting. If they were at the beach 50%, it will work.

Yvette | 84 comments Hi I just wanted to check if this cover of Murder on the Orient Express is acceptable for Auckland Checkpoint 1: Read a book with a large tram, train, vehicle, or plane on the cover. This museum is about historical travel, so what is needed are OLD CLASSIC vehicles

Murder on the Orient Express (Hercule Poirot, #10) by Agatha Christie

Yes, it will work.

Katrisa | 4460 comments Hi Janice for the book about vikings can it be a Norse mythology based book? This is the one I am thinking of
Truth and Other Lies
Truth and Other Lies (The Nine Worlds Rising #1) by Lyra Wolf

message 267: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments That sounds like an interesting book, but I don't think it address the Viking warriors - their quest to discover and conquer new lands

message 268: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Janice wrote: "That sounds like an interesting book, but I don't think it address the Viking warriors - their quest to discover and conquer new lands"

So no to Norse mythology in general? Just real life Vikings?

message 269: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Oh nevermind I just found this one in my Chirp library which will for sure fit
The History of the Vikings: Norse Sagas, Medieval Marauders, and Far-Flung Settlements
It's only Audio but it is 10 hours long so it will work

message 270: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Hey, I have a question I started a book in paper form but switched to Audio when I had to run errands. My paper copy is 256 pages but the audio is 5h 58min. I didn't even think to check the audio time since the book was long enough. I didn't realize I was 2 minutes short until I was posting it. Can i still use it? It was half and half eyeballs and audio

message 271: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Yes, go ahead Katrisa.

message 272: by Katrisa (last edited Jun 03, 2024 06:47PM) (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Thanks! I am awash in books and that tidbit slipped by. I more often go between kindle and audio but not so much between paper and audio. I had planned to just read with my eyes but ended up having to leave the house and I didn't want to put the book down lol!

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments Can I check this works for wine in a glass - checkpoint 4 elderlings

wine in a glass on cover Russian Red: A Wine Flights of Murder Thriller worried that the writing obscures it

Also I have Death at the Sign of the Rook in my plans which is an ARC
the HB is stated at over 300 pages but the kindles (as in my ARC) have no page numbers. I don't know how to report it

message 274: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments The Russian Red will work for wine glass. Death at this Sign has a few books with pages indicated around 350ish, so I'll accept that.

NetGalley has the Kindle ARC listed as 336 pages. Since Janice already approved it, maybe you can use that to report.

Katrisa | 4460 comments Hi Janice! I just want to check that this will work for "Read a book with a tall man made structure on it". I wasn't sure if it had to be like a skyscraper or not
A Lullaby for Witches by Hester Fox

And one more - is this stormy enough? I think there is lightning in those clouds.
The Wreck by Landon Beach

Read a book with a large tram, train, vehicle, or plane on the cover. This museum is about historical travel, so what is needed are OLD CLASSIC vehicles

Can I use the below? I am not sure if just plane on cover would work or it should be related to old classic vehicles

Drowning by T.J. Newman

message 281: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments It needs to be related to old classic vehicles. An old bomber plane with propellers would work but not a commercial jet airplane.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments Please can you verify
The Quantum Thief for MPG space Opera

I have had to change my books as the last one either dropped it as MPG Or never had Space opera on (i found it on Space opera Shelf and maybe just assumed).

Don't want to have to rearrange again thanks

Hmm, gotcha, I am struggling a bit with this one. Does the below work? (not 100% on vintage cars)

Later by Stephen King

message 285: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments It's kind of hard to tell. The cover gives off kind of a 50's/60's feel, so I'll verify it.

message 287: by Fee (new)

Fee | 318 comments Would you accept The City We Became for Manatee Observation deck? It’s a bridge, and you also see the water, but you see the bridge's underside.

The City We Became (Great Cities, #1) by N.K. Jemisin

message 288: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Yes, that will work Fee.

message 289: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments For the farseer name task can we use any of the names? Like Lantern or Promise? As they seem to be more nouns than traits. Also there is one called Constance can we use constant as I assuming that is the trait they are referencing? Or in the same vein is Patient ok for Patience?

message 290: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments For the illness task can the illness be a mental illness? This is the book I am thinking of
Get Me Out of Here: My Recovery from Borderline Personality Disorder
As someone who lives with a borderline I can attest that it definitely interferes with the ability to do normal things

The task states that it needs to be a quality, like Chivalry, Dutiful, Shrewd, Regal, etc.

Yes, mental illness may be included.

Medusa's Sisters by Lauren J.A. Bear

It can be any genre, unless specified. So you're good.

You can do three treks simultaneously for a badge, as long as the treks are in order. So you can read book 1, 2 & 3 of one trek, then book 1 of a second trek, then book 1,2 of the 3rd trek. Jump back to trek one and read book 4 and 5 etc.

Does that make sense?
