♞ Pat Gent | 629 comments I just finished The Thursday Murder Club as book #1 of a tetralogy, and would like to get it verified for that task before the author decides to publish a fifth book this year.

No indication that's in the works, but still.... I would hate to have to backtrack after moving on with my trek.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments Hi Janice
I have The Cardinal's Court (Hugh Mac Egan Mysteries #1) by Cora Harrison for old building on cover

I want to link The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer by simply building on cover
it is small but as you look at it right hand side of bottom row before last books ther is a building on the cover - will that work?

message 212: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I've been away. The regulations are that cover items are to be prominent and the focus of the book. I don't think that will work, sorry.

Its Ok I have found a different connection between them

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments For the Halloween as a theme The Graveyard Book is on Halloween list and is full of ghosts, witches etc
will this work - I have just started it as yet there is no mention of halloween

message 215: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments I don’t recall that it was a Halloween story. It is a ghost story but ghosts are not synonymous with Halloween.

Is there a requirement that there be steam visible?

That will be fine. If it was just a horse out in the pasture, I'd turn my nose up at it.

Yes there is that is why I am asking. Because there is a lot of steam-like stuff but may be clouds? Like there is definitely a smoke stack on the train but I don't know what demon trains run on lol!

message 222: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments I found the title obscured the top part of the cover art. Go for it.

Could you copy the task with your question. I don't know where there is a dock task. My initial thought is that I would call those docks.

Yes, it’s one of the City Walks - Cape Canaveral. Checkpoint 3. The checkpoint is an observation deck. The task itself is to read a book with a bridge that traverses a body of water on the cover, the water must be visible. I’m just curious if a dock would qualify as a bridge in this instance.

message 228: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Oh, I see. Sorry, but I would have to say no. A dock is not a bridge. A bridge would connect two land masses so people can cross.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments Hi i want to connect 2 books by the fact that they have exactly the same rating - but am worried that might change before i complete the badge. Could you confirm that this works

Skeleton Canyon and Exiles both have a rating of 4.05 at the moment

Thanks

Kristie | 19143 comments Marie (UK) wrote: "Hi i want to connect 2 books by the fact that they have exactly the same rating - but am worried that might change before i complete the badge. Could you confirm that this works..."

I don't know if using the rating is an allowable connection. That came up once before in a different challenge and it wasn't allowed because it's more about Goodreads than it is about the book and it isn't a consistent thing. So, I'm not sure. Janice can override me on this if she pops on as they are both 4.05 at the moment.

However, you could use the connection that both books are written by women with a first name starting with J. (Jane & Judith)

message 231: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments I think Kristie's suggestion of using the authors a more sound connection.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments Just thinking ahead Inspitred by literature trail - the realm of the Elderlings

the last book on the trail requires to read a book with a title that contains a characteristic also applied to a character
I may be over thinking this one

Does any word count e.g. Mountain or Bee
or does it need to be more of a descriptive characteristic such as Shrewd or August?

message 234: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments The word chosen has to be a descriptive quality. While Bee was a Farseer, the word bee does not describe a person's quality.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments I am planning ahead again and
Adventure hike 2 start Glasgow - setting is a seaport.

Does the sea or its port have to be part of the storyline in the book

I have My Name Is Red set in Istanbul but i don't think the storyline has anything to do with the sea or it's port area

or would The Lagos Wife work Lagos is described as having a port and the MC goes missing after a boat trip?

message 236: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Are either Istanbul or Lago a seaport? All that is required, is that the city that the book is set in is a seaport.

message 237: by Marie (UK) (last edited Apr 20, 2024 07:27AM) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments Istanbul is definitely a seaport https://istanbultarihi.ist/565-seapor...

and Lagos is listed here https://www.marineinsight.com/know-mo...

Viji | 1506 comments I am about to complete Badge 1. I started planning books for Badge 2.

I want to read The Tomb of the Honey Bee for the task:
Checkpoint 3: Tortora
Read a book with the word canyon or tomb is in the title

Would The Beekeeper's Secret: There's a Sting in Every Tale for Connection 1 for the above task - relating to Honey cover shows bottles of honey) or Bee (in Beekeeper in the title)?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Grainne Coughlan | 1297 comments Hi, I want to get your opinion on these book covers with an old building on the cover:

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
I googled it and the author says it's The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood which was built around the late 1890's and the early 1900's.

The other option is an Irish one with Georgian red brick buildings which were built in Ireland in the 1800's and early 1900's.
Forever Home by Graham Norton

Either would work.

The task asks for obviously old. And I gave samples. While these buildings you propose are historically old, I can't tell from the picture that they are obviously old. I can't see distressed or aged wood, or other building materials. They don't look like obsolete type structures. There are so many books that would fit better.

Sorry.

When I saw this task, the first book that came to mind was Evil Under the Sun by Agatha Christie. Hercule Poirot is at a beach resort.

The requirements are that you create your own thread, and report as you progress, just like you did in previous years. You need to be verifying with each post that your book fits the criteria, explain the connection between the ones that are to be connected, state the page length, etc.
