Thanks, Janice, for the help and the tips. I understand the task and hope to find the appropriate book.

Katrisa | 4460 comments Just wanted to check since you are not tracking all of our books as we read them does that mean we don't have to post each book in a new post on our thread or would you still like us to do that?
I was just editing a badge 1 post with my completed books.

message 103: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Jan 03, 2024 01:27PM) (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Katrisa, she said somewhere to report them in our threads the same way we have in previous years with the addition of explaining the link. I think she still wants the information there so she can see it before giving out badges. I don't think it matters if they are all in individual posts any more, but the information should look similar.

message 104: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I just know that she liked them in their own posts so she was alerted by new posts but now that we are just tracking our own can they just be in one post that I edit as I finish books?

message 105: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Yes, you still need to post them in your thread.

I would still like to get notifications when you're updating the books you've read. If you have one book - do it in one post. If you have two or three, you can put them in the same post. But don't just keep updating a thread. Sharon has already posted her first two books in one post.

The reason I wanted each individually was because I kept missing books that were being reported. It's not so critical now.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Has anyone found a good list or resource for finding series of four books?

I can go through all the books I have that are the first in a series, but part of me was hoping for a slightly lazier option lol
I plead the weather, it's storming and rainy which just makes me want to hide under blankets

message 107: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I'm almost sure I saw a post earlier in this tread with a link to a list of 4 book series. I remember some discussion that it a bit out of date as some series had added more books after time the list was put together but I think it might still be a useful resourse. Problem is, I can't find the message!

It was in the general discussion thread - post 30

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments You guys are amazing! Thank you both. I thought i had seen something but spent half the day trying to find it and couldn't see a thing

And thanks Odette for posting it to begin with!

message 110: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Thanks Lori. I'd forgotten there was a general discussion thread. It's kinda lost there in the midst of the personal threads.

message 111: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Maybe we should start some lists of own own.

message 112: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments like how the Popsugar challenge people make a listopia for each of their tasks? That could be fun and helpful!

message 113: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Janice, I have a question about audio. I understand the new rule is that a story must be at least 6 hours long. Is this 6.0 hours or are we rounding to the nearest hour? i.e. if a book is 5h 45m long does it qualify?

message 114: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Oh and also, I didn't realise that was a different thread. Thank you, completely forgot that existed!

I'm going to jump in here. The ruling is at least 6 hours, so anything under 6 hours does not qualify. We don't round up time, just as we wouldn't round up page numbers.

Around The World did as well.

Who has the energy and willingness to start a few lists? Maybe pick some common tasks and don't have copious other lists already covering the subject. I was looking at lists for Halloween and they all focused on books to read during Halloween, and not with a theme of Hallween.

Heather | 202 comments Is Homecoming by Kate Morton acceptable to start with? Or does the word Hime have to be stand alone? Thanks in advance!

I have the energy and willingness. Just not the titles to fill them.
i created the halloween one: Halloween as a theme

which other should I do?

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I am sure that I am not the only one spying and getting ideas form the other readers planning. As my next book is the elusive "1st of a serie of 4" and I just borrowed my book, I removed my list of potential from my spreadsheet.
They were:
Malice
Magician: Apprentice
Feed
The Raven Boys

message 121: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I created a list for one I'm struggling with from the Realm of the Elderlings hike, one or more yellow flowers on the cover.

The words that you are tasked with are "Home", "Homeward", or "Homebound". Your word of "Homecoming" is not one of the options.

I think that as long as you start the list and come back here with the title, like you've done, we can all help with poplating them.

Thanks Ester.

I thought I saw one of those too. The 4-in-a-series that I found are:
Little Beach Street Bakery I linked it with waves and bodies of water on the cover. I read a book by this author before and it's a light but fun read.

If you want something deeper and more meaningful at 250 ish pages you could try Yellow Crocus and link by flower or color.

Lori (glitzyrebel) | 444 comments Hi! I haven't participated in a challenge, or even been on Goodreads, for quite a while. This challenge sounds quite interesting so I am going to try to figure it out and join in!!

Welcome, Lori! If you haven't found them yet, you can get a lot of information from the following threads:

Main challenge thread
The rules

Edit - I see you've already created a thread, so you probably found these already. I'll just leave them here for easy access anyway. :)

There is a new thread devoted to listopias. HERE

And I already created one for meals on the cover. You'll find the link in the new thread.

Oh, and the task is "savory food on the cover". I changed if from "meals on the cover.

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments quick question. More of an english one than a challenge one. (Just when you think your english is good enough, you stumble on a word you misunderstood since,well.., forever. )

Savoury... it means food that is salty and/or spicy but not sweet right?
So could I get away with something like a carrot? or is it too simple?

Yes, it's the opposite of sweet. Carrots work.

Jayme | 4519 comments Hi Janice - I have a question which i think I know the obvious answer too, but....
For the task read a book about an orphan...
Inspired by Literature: Nala & Dean. Nala's World: One Man, His Rescue Cat, and a Bike Ride around the Globe

Can we read the inspired book for the task: orphan? The book looks good.

message 143: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments I was thinking more along the lines of a human orphan. Maybe you could fit it in somehow to one of your connecting books. It's worth the read whether or not you do it for the challenge.

Sounds good. I will definitely plug it in somewhere :)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments I have just realised my 75% black book will not work because of the kindle length (it is an ARC)
My computer will not allow tineye to work - i have tried every trick in the book but it simply gives me hundreds of covers of the book but no info

Are any of these 75% black
The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones Anansi Boys (American Gods, #2) by Neil Gaiman OR Artificial Wisdom by Thomas R. Weaver

thank you to anyone who can help

message 146: by ♞ Pat (last edited Jan 14, 2024 02:46AM) (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 629 comments Checking ...

Artificial Wisdom for sure ... 80.3%

Anansi Boys ... no. Tin Eye reads it as gray.

The Only Good Indians ... 79.2%.

message 147: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Janice gets the final call on this, of course, but I'm going to say that we typically use tineye when we aren't sure if something would qualify. For the Anansi Boys cover, Tineye sees everything within the spiderweb as grey 26.1% and the surrounding part as black 67.2%. To the eye, it looks all black, which would be 93.3%. Do you have a physical copy? I think if the part inside the spiderweb really looks black, it's probably fine to use.

message 148: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2277 comments thank you both I can use one of the two that work on tineye

message 149: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Jan 14, 2024 03:13PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments While it looks a bit lighter than the other two books, it looks black to me. I should add that tineye is a tool, and there can be a bit of leeway to it.
