Thanks Alondra! π

Wow! What an incredible way to flip the script! Jessica Knoll took the power and focus off of the killer, 'The Defendant' and put it on the victims and survivors. My heart breaks for the how the women were treated and their stories dismissed when all of this happened. My only real critique of the book is that this story jumps back and forth between multiple timelines and a few times I had to pause to remember which timeline I was reading. But otherwise a knockout book!
And I really enjoyed my buddy read with Lea, Alissa, Ioana and everyone else who jumped in on the conversation. π

I added this a while back; because, why not? Everyone seems to really enjoy this, so definitely added.

It was a good book. Like you, I liked that it was not about "the defendant", but the victims. There are plenty of books about him, and he was not that special. But I did not like the jump between the story lines and time lines, it made things confusing.
I think I preferred Pamela's story, but Ruth's was sadder and if possible, even more tragic. She didn't even have a family to understand and protect her...

I enjoyed this book. It's a different take on a real life horror story. It's probably not as grumesome as you're used to reading (lol), but I think you would like it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that the timeline thing didn't quite work for. I'm fine with with books that jump between past and present, but she jumped between two different past timelines plus the present. And it seemed like even in the chapters of the past, she still put some of the present day Pamela's or Tina's voice in them. I really had to pay atttention to the dates.

I agree. It seems that a lot of books these days use this technique, and some are done better than others. I'm fine with 2 separate timelines with distinct individualities, but I don't think this was the case here. I listened to the audiobook, and even with different narrators, this was not clear all the time.

I think I will too. Thanks Lindsey.

I honestly can't imagije listening to this one. I would have been beyond confused!

I really, really like Ali Hazelwood's writing style. An author that can make science interesting, sexy and funny all at the same time is golden for me. I wish she had been my Chemistry professor in college! Maybe I wouldn't have had to repeat the course. Lol
This is another fun book. I loved the characters and the storyline. I loved the banter between Jack and Elsie. And I hate to break anyone's heart, but Jack is my new "book husband".
And i loved this buddy read with Lea. π

Bahahahahaha!!!! I can share! We can alternate weeks with him. π€£π€£

LOL, sounds perfect.

What a fun, delightful and quirky read with a hint of suspense! How can you not love the character Molly the Maid? She is endearing, I enjoyed this quick read and look forward to the sequel!

I've just added this to my To Read list - sounds from your comments and the Goodreads description like this book is a good fit for me.

Ok, what in the heck did I just read??? The book starts off a little slow and then bam! you can't put it down. You won't know what or who to believe or trust. That's what I love about Lisa Jewell books - she writes crafty, twisty fast paced novels that keep you up all night reading because you have to know the ending.
And i loved doing this one as a buddy read with Alissa! π
You're on track with this list, Lindsey. One of these days, I will be brave enough to do 2 lists. .... Maybe. smh

Thanks! I'm trying my hardest to complete these.
You know you want to do multiple list!!! It's the right thing to do. Come join the dark side of those with no shelf control!! π€£π€£π€£

I don't think I could, seriously. I don't think I've ever completed a challenge within 6 months, and I've been on here since 2011. If I ever do, I will definitely try a 2nd list. Its definitely something to think about, and I would probably not do an individual list, because I don't need that added pressure. smh π©π©π©π€¦πΎ

You Can Do It!!!!!! Think of it like the reading Olympics!

Wow, talk about a seriously messed up, dysfunctional family drama book!! I'm not sure if I would have picked this book up on my own, but it was one of my choices for Book of the Month. And what a great choice it was. I devoured this book and couldn't put it down. I fell in love with Tara and her struggle to set things right in her life. Great story!

Put it on the list!!!!!!! And speaking of lists... isn't time for us to start writing our 2025 lists?????

I will be keeping an eye out for that book. I enjoyed her other book We Are the Brennans. π

If I could give this 10 stars I would!!! It's been a minute since a book has just ripped my heart to pieces and made me really ugly cry. This book is beautiful and heart wrenching at the same time. It's deep and heavy yet will make you laugh too. This book will sit with me for awhile. Make sure you have multiple boxes of tissues when you read (and maybe not read it while in carpool line.... I had a teacher come up to my truck to make sure I was okay).

This was just an OK book for me. Story was somewhat good, a few twists and some deception that you want in a mystery/thriller. I'm not sure I can exactly pinpoint specifically what I didn't really care for except I felt it wasn't near as good as her last book and it didn't hold my interest enough.
One more and this list is complete!!!

I really like this author. And I'll be honest, this book of hers wasn't really on my radar until a good buddy read friend (that would be you Alissa!!!!!) read it and said it's good and worth the read. I'm glad I listened. I tend to shy away from anything tagged 'magical realism', but this is more of a story about love, loss, grief, and finding your way through heart break. It's funny at parts, had me doing the ugly cry at others but dying to know how the book ends. I really enjoyed it.
