2024: (Impossible) Disney Challenge

It's technically not non-fiction I think.. But for Moana, there are some Polynesian myths that the story was based on. I am not sure where people categorize mythology and religion type stuff.

Thanks for the ideas. I've worked-out books for them.

Guess I should probably watch Moana too one of these days. 😁

I actually liked Moana - but I may be biased, since my daughter was a member of a ballet company and they did a production of it. The songs are definitely catchy!

Absolutely!

Just watched Moana. it was fun! And Dwayne Johnson's song is ridiculously catchy!

And for POLYNESIAN tag can we use Hawaiian?

Maria wrote: "Sorry if this got answered earlier but for Lion King retelling can we do any hamlet retellings since it is based off that play.
For any retelling task, if you can justify it, it's ok with me!

Yes.

No, it needs to be a different word

The page points are the bonus. You don't get additional points unless you actually participated in a buddy read.

Let Me Be Frank: A Book About Women Who Dressed Like Men to Do Shit They Weren't Supposed to Do.
My justification is "cross-dressing for great causes". Very powerful.

Thank you for the suggestion, Richard. My library has a copy, so I'm reading it also. Goodreads has some reviews that are not very supportive of it, but I'll give it a read and judge for myself.

I hope you like it. Your experience may vary.

The Night Ends with Fire
by K.X. Song
Based on the famous Chinese legend of Mulan, this fantasy adventure from author K.X. Song (An Echo in the City) follows a princess who disguises herself as a boy to enlist as a soldier. Complicating matters: a handsome prince-turned-fellow-soldier, an opium-addicted father, and a sea dragon spirit with its own mysterious agenda.
Release date: July 2

Nanci, the monthly bonus is page points, there are no additional bonus points. You get page points if you read for the Bonus Task

I just finished this one and thought I'd share for anyone else who were looking for non-fiction for this one for the poor woman - it is available on Hoopla free as an audiobook for anyone who uses that. Unfortunately under 200 pages and not professionally narrated, but most non-fiction is out of print and hard to find, or else weighty academic tones. Narration, again not professional, but it is an easy read and each chapter is broken up into different aspects of her story and life and is interesting, although of course very sad -

Hope it helps others on the hunt! I like to share retellings or, in this case, non-fiction accounts, to help out if I can recommend them for other readers.
I still have a few selected for Retellings for other characters I am looking forward to. I have found through, so once I read them, if I enjoy, will share here for others.

That's a good option as well, thanks for sharing that. I had done a lot of hunting at the end of last year for some of these for pre-planning and Pocahontas was the hardest for me to come up with something. I hadn't run across The Peacekeeper during my searches, looks interesting, hope you enjoy it.

I had read most of the Dark books by her and they are all so different from each other, this one (Dance in the Dark) being my favorite, as well as the dragon one a few books later.
I had another book pre-planned there that was a random retelling but took it off when this one worked and have no idea what I was originally planning by this point with my memory.

Tigers of the Snow: How One Fateful Climb Made The Sherpas Mountaineering Legends
It's not actually tagged 'Snow', but really should be. It's set in the snow & it's even in the title.

If we re-read a book we already read and used at the beginning of the year (after the six months are up), would using them for a task be classed as a separate book, or as doubling up?
I have a few January re-reads coming up in July, so thought I'd better ask before using them for this challenge 😆

If it's not tagged, you can't use it.... unless you tag it...

Normally I would say that's fine, but this challenge has a 1 year re-read stipulation (not 6 months). I double-checked earlier because I'm rereading Thone of Glass with my husband and I realized I can't use any of them because I read them around 11 months ago!

Not a problem. I'll probably be just about done by then anyway 😆

I don't know how to tag. That's ok, I'm not bothered by it.

Gah! I was so busy adding other things I forgot... off to do it now!
