I'm showing you the April Bonus a few days early, since I may be busy over the weekend!

Mary Poppins

Must be completed between 1-Apr-2024 and 30-Apr-2024
Read a book with an umbrella on the cover

message 252: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments Gonna need the extra time to find something! lol.

message 253: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 778 comments I found a yellow cover with an umbrella but the hold wait is well into June. Maybe the library will buy a second copy.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 908 comments Hm, will go umbrella hunting soon

message 255: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments I've found one, but it's a teeeeeny tiny umbrella! lol.

A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 908 comments It IS but it's a cute one

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 251 comments There's this one:

Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger

Away with the Fairies (Phryne Fisher, #11) by Kerry Greenwood

Here's one if someone needs it

Nanci | 256 comments Here's a few I found

The Nanny Diaries (Nanny, #1) by Emma McLaughlin

The Pink Umbrella by Frances Crane Amelia Goes West (The Black Umbrella) by JoAnna Illingworth

The Umbrella Lady (Umbrella, #1) by V.C. Andrews

And perhaps the best one!
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I'm choosing The Pink Umbrella by Frances Crane as it's only 158 pages and sounds like fun.

message 263: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 941 comments I read Banyan Moon and it's tagged asia-southeast-and-china. Does that work for tagged China or Chinese?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 908 comments I can't use this one since read recently, but for umbrella, the first Mr Mercedes works

Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #1) by Stephen King

Also Paper Magician, not in mood for these right now, but if others want to try

The Paper Magician (The Paper Magician, #1) by Charlie N. Holmberg

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 908 comments Going to do this Perry Mason

The Case of the Sulky Girl (Perry Mason, #2) by Erle Stanley Gardner

For Tagged New Orleans, what if the book happens in New Orleans?

In Precis: New Orleans felt like the right place for me to disappear.

The book isn't out yet, so it won't have tags.

it has to at least have a tag that can work for "New Orleans"

Hi Ashley! Would you consider this a castle?

message 269: by Maria (new)

Daughter of the Reef this one is a retelling for Moana

Not sure if this has been asked, but for Read a book with an amphibian or reptile on the cover...do Dragon's count?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 908 comments Yeah I havent read it yet but I planned on Daughter of the Reef for this one

message 273: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 778 comments I took the retelling in a different direction. I am reading a YA Coming of Age book from a Samoan author - Where We Once Belonged. (The above one is by a UK white author).

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 908 comments If I cant get into Daughter of the Reef will try that one

Other than the retelling mentioned above... I will accept any of these for a Moana retelling (though they are not strictly retellings), since this one is much harder:

Telesa: The Covenant Keeper (first in a series) by Lani Wendt Young
Where We Once Belonged by Sia Figiel
We Are the Ocean: Selected Works by Epeli Hau’ofa
Wildefire by Karsten Knight (trilogy)
The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera

Of course. You don't have to use my retellings list (or any other), it's just a jumping off point if you're struggling

Thanks Bernadette, this looks a lot more interesting than the others. I'm struggling with the retellings.

If you're struggling, don't forget you an be exceptionally creative! It doesn't have to be a classic retelling! Find a unique way to link it to the main story.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments I went in a different direction with the Moana retelling. I read a book which was set on an island, a fact that was important to the plot.

The 2023 (Impossible) Zodiac Challenge Winner was Sammy, and as the winner, she got to create a Bonus Task!

"When my daughter was little, she was, of course, Disney Princess mad and her favourite (then and now) was Ariel. When she was 4 years old, she packed her Disney Princess suitcase and demanded we open the front door for her, as she was off to find her handsome prince.

Last summer, 20 years later almost to the day, she finally married her handsome prince (Cameron, rather than Eric, but they have the same hair!)"

The task:
Read a book that has a character, author, or audio narrator named Eric Or Cameron (alternative spellings ok).
Book must be completed between 15-Apr-2025 and 15-May-2024

Clearly I didn't think this through, lol.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 823 comments I would liked to have done this challenge, but every time i use a spreadsheet it gets all messed up. Also the spreadsheet is far too tiny to make out what it says. Could I just make a new thread under this title? Or just give it a miss.

Yay for the perfectly named Erik von Darkmoor.

P.S. I'm loving this challenge!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments As an aside, my son-in-law Cameron has in fact narrated an audiobook!

Unfortunately it's not long enough for the challenge, and not the greatest book out there, but he did a brilliant job with the narration. I hope he'll be convinced to do more in future, because I think he could do very well with it!

Pandrusa - Knight of Oberon (Pandrusa, #1) by Matthew Beale

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 908 comments Oh nice, just realized I had a book this month already with a Cameron author that I already had borrowed from KU and wanted to read :)
