Eunice | 301 comments For the buddy read bonus, can I read formal buddy read picks from the previous year? At least, the ones whose threads are still open?

Hmmm... No, as you need to participate in a discussion and since the Buddy Read is no longer active, there is no discussion to be had.

However, if you would like to find a partner to read and discuss the book with, and you both comment and discuss, I'll allow it. For this option, you can start a new BR by requesting a new thread or using the Formal BR thread if it's still open.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments I don't recommend Unlocked by Casey L. Bond as either a long-haired MC or Rapunzel retelling.

Anyone have a time machine so I can go back and get those 3 hours of my life back? 😂

I'm about to start The Beekeeper's Apprentice for long hair MC - I've been told (through numerous google and reddit searches) that she has long long hair... crossing fingers

ETA - And it's free if you have KU

It's an excellent book, Ashley . And Mary does have long hair - it's mentioned several times.

My question, though, is how long does the hair have to be to be very long? That's where I'm running into trouble. Mid back? Down to the derriere? Is the mention that someone has long hair sufficient?

What other books are people reading for the bonus? I'm not going to read Sammy's book, lol, but I reread The Beekeeper's Apprentice last year, so that's out....

Use your discretion - but if the hair is long enough to be mention at least a few times, I say you're good. I'm not sure how detailed every book will be, but if the author describes hair down beyond mid-back, I'll give you an automatic yes.

I peeked at a digital copy of the book. It explicitly mentions that her hair reaches below the waist.

I'm probably going to use your book for my bonus task too haha.

I might do that, Ashley. I've been thinking that it was time for a reread of the series, so that would probably work - and I'm pretty certain Mary keeps her long hair!

For the MM readers in the group, it looks as though the first and third of Jet Mykles' Heaven Sent: Extended Remix Series would qualify based on the covers alone.

There are two forthcoming MM Buddy Reads:

We haven't set an exact timeframe for that one - I know Christina said she could start in a few days, and I'm pretty flexible. Happily, we don't all need to read on exactly the same schedule, so I'd say join in whenever.

I am bound and determined to participate in more Buddy Reads this year....

For a 'retelling' of Pocahontas, would you consider a nonfiction work about the historical person - specifically, Pocahontas and the English Boys: Caught Between Cultures in Early Virginia?

Tr1sha | 657 comments The Princess and the Goblin is a classic children’s book. It’s old-fashioned so some people may not like it. But there’s a character with very long hair, described near the beginning of the book. I think that there are some short characters too, but check this in case I’m wrong.

There are dwarves in The Hobbit.

message 148: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3761 comments Yes, dwarves are an obvious route!

I happened to find a character that was 5ft as I was reading Humboldt's Gift. I think 5ft is pretty short 😁

For find-in-text, can we use "Narcissistic" instead of "narcissist"?
