I'm certain that I read a postquel/prequel, not once but twice, in which Nigel Walmsley is visited by a far-future descendant to decide about joining the Syntony, a girl with golden fur (and a tail, I think) who can teleport (an ability that fades with adulthood), projected by a device on the edge of the solar system which was sent past the collapse of the universe and the Great Bang. I can't find it listed anywhere as part of the Galactic Center series. Or maybe I'm conflating two independent series?

Found it. Turned out I had the details wrong: book is Transcendent (Destiny's Children #3) by Stephen Baxter, character is Michael Poole, girl is Alia (no tail) from half a million years in the future. I got "edge of the solar system" correct.https://www.goodreads.com/series/4356...
