I found it pretentious and annoying.
I was working in a library when Twilight was popular and decided to read other vampire series to see how they compared. There are several that are much better (in my opinion) and don't insult your intelligence like Twilight.
One that is not all that well known is Tanya Huff's Blood series. It takes place in Canada (which is a nice change of scene) and features a former detective Vicky Nelson who has been forced to leave the police force due to a medical condition. Through a series of strange events, she meets a real vampire and they work together to solve some gruesome murders. It goes on through at least 4 books. There is a romantic triangle but these are adults and the relationships are too. Highly recommend this for an intelligent twist on the genre.
If you want some humor, then try the Sookie Stackhouse series, very funny, especially the recurring character Bubba (it's set in the South).

Thank you! I started Twilight, and I share your opinion. I can't understand its popularity. So I watched the first movie. Nope. Still didn't grab me.

I feel like it depends on your reading history - if you've read adult vampire books (Anne Rice/ Lyndsay Sands) it doesn't hold up - - But if it's your first foray into this genre, it's a decent start.

This book was shit and reading it was a huge waste of my time. (srry for my language i just want to keep people from reading it )
