Thanks, Wobbley. I always seem to enjoy Gaskell. This is one of her lighter books, but that was exactly what was needed right now.

Kathleen | 5458 comments I'm glad to hear about this one--I have so much Gaskell catch up to do. And look how close you are on the Second Place or Worse challenge! That's a tough one.

Terris | 4385 comments Glad to hear you enjoyed this one, Sara! I'm reading it now for my Old/New Challenge. I'm not very far into it yet, but it keeps pulling me in. Now I'm really looking forward to it :)

Sadly it is the long read that I have put off to the end...maybe I make it, but probably I don't.

It is a very sweet book, Terris. I'll be interested in your reaction. I was in the mood for something less taxing, so it fit the bill for me.

I am closing out all the challenges except the Decade. I might still get those two read before the end of the year.

It was a great challenge year for me. I completed more challenges than I had committed to. Failed to get the Long Read done for the Second or Worse and didn't re-read as many as I had hoped for. I did not meet my goals for the series challenge, but I am a very happy camper because this challenge helped me to complete a couple of series I had started and make progress on all the others. I think this one was a case of over-promising myself.

Excited for next year!

You've accomplished so much Sara, and it's great that you're happy with your challenges! Yeah, it's hard to resist overcommitting, but planning is part of the fun! You read some great books, and that's the main thing. :)

Lori Keeton | 1496 comments You definitely had a great reading year, Sara. So glad to be able to share some of them with you. Looking forward to what 2025 brings!

I always have to remind myself that the purpose of the challenge isn't actually to complete it--it is to read great books trying to. Thanks for all the encouragement over the year, Wobbley.

Terris | 4385 comments Sara, I have another wonderful book for you to add to your TBR -- but put it on the top of the list!

I just loved it and think you will too. Here is my review:

You and I are a little addicted to the planning, I think, Lori. I'm excited about 2025 already! And, you know how much I have appreciated the opportunity to learn from you and to share with you this year.

Said one of the most inspiring readers on the planet! I was determined to quit by the end of November and leave December for other pursuits. It is hard for me not to keep trying to finish them all right up to the last day of the year.

Thank you, Shirley. I'm blessed to have spent much of the year reading with other motivating reader, like yourself. I especially enjoy our Dickens reads and am looking forward to another in 2025.

Thank you, so much. I went on a quick search and found that Archive.org has a copy...so, I can read it that way if I can't get a copy otherwise. I put it on my short-list and will be sure to read it first of the year. Sounds marvelous!

I have added the Decade Challenge to my completed list and I am positively shutting the door on 2024. I committed to 10 challenges and had five maybes. I completed 12 challenges, but two of the ones I committed to were not completed. All together, a rather good year for me.

Thanks, Lynn. You know I am OCD about the challenges and cannot stand that I did not finish them all. LOL. Less ambition might be a good thing for me.

Thanks, Kathleen. Much of the fun is sharing them with other astute readers, like you! Cannot wait to see how many books you add to my TBR in 2025.

message 387: by Sue (new)

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments Congratulations on your challenges, Sara! Completing 12 is a great accomplishment! The only one I feel obligated to complete is the Old and New one. It's the most challenging since you can't change books. I put The Priory and The Fighter on my list for next year after seeing you loved them.
