Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Western in a world filled with mechanical animals

The book is set in a world where animals and machines are one and the same. It opens with the protagonist wrangling a wild bike and taming it like a bull. The prodigal son--esque hero returns to his family home after his father's death and sets about solving the mystery. The premise was really cool so I hope y'all can tell me more,

It sounds like it might be Hong on the Range by William Wu which has bionic cattle. There is a Goodreads page for this book and information says it has two sequels..
