Where Does This Book Fit? the 2024 edition

It's been ages since I read the first book but I think they have a POV character for each London, don't they? So a book with at least 3 POVs. Maybe a book about pirates as some of the characters are privateers at certain points in the series. And I'm certain you can find librarians a d booksellers to recommend it.

Cosy fantasy won't put their characters through too much harm and stakes are low. I don't want to give too much away about the series but the ADSOM books get quite dark, so it would be a bit of a stretch to call them cosy, but if you personally get cosy vibes from them, it's your challenge.

Allison, there are so many definitions of cozy that it would make your head swim! However, the one that works best for me is cozy is the novel whose people and places I would want to live in and know.

There are a ton of definitions of cozy fantasy, but I tend to think of it as "feel good fantasy." Some of the titles that come to mind when I think about this sub-genre are books like Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, and A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking. The characters in these books do have problems to solve, and/or quests to accomplish, but the stakes are lower than what you'd expect from an epic fantasy like The Lord of the Rings.

Yes. I think a few.

Book 1 - There's snow at some point in this book.
Book 2 - A book about pirates. I don't want to spoil too much but there are pirates in this book.
Book 3 - Maybe the bookseller or librarian prompt. The series is probably recommended by one of them.

If you decide to read Six of Crows after, it fulfills the 3 POV prompt. There's 6 characters, I believe, and each chapter rotates the POV. There's an enemies to lovers aspect in them as well. There's 2 books, so you could hit enemies to lovers for one and 3 POV for the other.

Hi there! Would you all count Mort by Terry Pratchett as a bidungsroman? I’m about 1/3rd of the way through and am leaning towards yes, but it seems the character actually has to grow up within the confines of the novel?

On that note, I just finished Equal Rites by TP and am definitely counting that as my cozy fantasy 🤣 Read most of that book in bed while snorting from laughter, not sure I could classify anything as more cozy.

In Memoriam by Alice Winn was my favorite book last year. So good! It would fit in #2 Bildungsroman, #11 genre you don't typically read (depending on you), #14 recommended by bookseller or #15 recommended by librarian, #27 someone dies in the first chapter, #31 complete sentence (maybe?), #43 second chance romance, #45 LGBTQ romance, #46 sleeps more than 24 hours (I'm pretty sure).

Some of these might be slight stretches, but it would be how you interpret the prompts. I hope you love it.

I used Babel for my one-word title, but it can also fit for at least 3 POVs (the other POVs are one chapter each, but they are there). I'd argue it could fit as a bildungsroman, too, because it's all about the MC growing up into an adult and his changing worldviews.

I read Wrong Place Wrong Time last year, but pretty sure there's a first chapter death. Also as a stretch, it could be character who sleeps for more than 24 hours - each time she falls asleep she goes backwards in time, but often jumps back weeks, months or years of time. So if you consider time running in reverse while she sleeps, it could count.

I'm a librarian. We recommend Inheritance Games where I work for Summer Reading. So that's one if you haven't gotten it yet. They're all bildungsromans, so you could put 2 in for that. 1 could also be an enemies-to-lovers plot (loosely). Depending on what you read, could be a genre you avoid. Almost definitely been recommended by a bookseller somewhere.
