aarna | 1 comments uh well what i would suggest is write down what you're feeling when u read things, maybe important parts that hit different, bits that make you want to scream at the author, quoteable quotes, honestly its ur copy go wild with whatever you're thinking when u read

Or even just quotes I like.

TimeFliesAway | 121 comments Annotating is basically just making notes to a specific quote/paragraph in a book. Sounds fancier than it is lol, though you can make it >aesthetic< like bookstagrammers like to do.

Shelby Kay | 29 comments I think the easiest way to start to highlight or mark all the quotes you like!
I usually do..
•quotes
•foreshadowing or important details or both
•important plot points for my favorite character that I want to look back on
• explanations or definitions when I don’t understand something including translations if it’s in another language (did a lot of this in the secret history by Donna tartt)
If there’s more than one plot going I’ll usually mark them in separate colors

In terms of writing in the book
I’ll explain what I think something means, why I think something is important, my own guesses to what’s going to happen.

I started by annotating a book I’ve already read so it was easier for me to decide what I want to highlight or mark.

Clean post it’s are a good way to explore annotating without committing so you can play around with what feels good!

•themes
•romance
•specific characters
•questions
•relating parts to your life (it’s a good way to put a piece of yourself in a book)

Lynn | 130 comments I love that Goodreads allows us to show our highlighted quotes from the books we read. Sometimes they’re profound, sometimes they’re funny, but they’re always in some way insightful and interesting. I like showing them to anyone reading my reviews, but I especially like to be able to look back at them myself, because there’s always a reason I marked them.

I suppose that isn’t the same thing, but it should help you with making annotations if you’re on Kindle.

I never minded writing in my books, in fact, I doodled all over them with notes and there are little hearts all over my romances. My husband would just love that. ;)
