SOLVED. YA book, probably from early 90s, about a boy inspired by Gandhi to fast in protest of his aunt losing her home. [s]

I cannot for the life of me remember the name of this book, although I remember the cover and story perfectly. I read it as a kid many times but can't find it anymore (sadly, my mother probably donated it somewhere ages ago without telling me), and for some reason google searches bring up nothing.

It's set in the US, about a boy who lives with his aunt and she is going to lose her house, so he takes inspiration from Gandhi and sits on the floor of her house refusing to eat. This goes on long enough that his aunt, who joins him, begins to get sickly. I don't remember the outcome but I think they must have saved her house in the end.
