Better With Age
question
Can/Should Baby Boomers Learn New Technology?

Laura Derrington and other authors write a blog on various issues facing aging Baby Boomers called “Rock The Wrinkle”. Because my ebook suspense novel Better With Age: A Boomer’s Tale involves a technologically deficient Boomer executive trying to innovatively battle age discrimination by incoming younger tech savvy executives in a corporate merger, I provided her with a free copy for mention or review on RTW. Instead of writing a review, however, she wrote a thoughtful piece on the pros and cons of Boomers or older people staying up with technology: http://www.rockthewrinkle.com/learnin...
The question(s) for discussion are those that Laura raised: what do you do when everyone else is getting ahead of you technologically, especially in your profession, trade or business? Can you do it quickly?
And on the downside, do you think that getting up to speed may not be worth it because you are always in contact/reachable – i.e., do you feel the need to be unplugged from phone/text/email every once in a while? Does it bother you when its seems like everyone at the meeting or restaurant is busy with their devices and not interacting with other humans? And are there so many new devices and modes of communicating that you feel unable to cope?
And a couple of discussion questions of my own: do you agree with my premise that a Boomer can and should catch up technologically? And do you think that older executives are “Better With Age” because of experience and the knowledge they’ve gained over the years?
I highly recommend “Rock The Wrinkle” to Boomers. And please take a look at Better With Age: A Boomer’s Tale to see the way I dealt with these subjects.
