Advise Please. I went to choose a book and realized that I only have a several hours left before it expires. It is past archive date, and too obscure for my local library. Is there a way to ask the publisher for a new copy?

You can mail with request to publisher, telling them issue.
Hopefully you will be successful. I got approved for a book and thought it downloaded, but by the time I realized it wasn't there, it was archived. I reached out to the publisher and they never responded. :-(
So, multiple times I have downloaded a book and then when I finally go to read it, it’s gone! I guess the archive date passed…but I thought that once it was downloaded, you had it. I guess not. Reached out to NetGalley each time. After multiple emails and multiple days I am always told the same thing…nothing they can do about it. Sorry… 😮😬😕
If you download it to Kindle, it stays. If you download it to the NetGalley app, it doesn’t.
When push comes to shove, try a tweet. I shook a book out of a publisher that way once.

They often grant access about ten minutes before they archive them, and on two different occasions, I haven't been quick enough. Whether it's a DRC on Kindle or an audio on NG Shelf, you gotta download immediately!

One was 48 hours, and one was less than 24 hours. C'mon, that just isn't decent.
If the option is available then transfer the file to your Kindle or Kindle app (which works with a mobile phone). The version on Kindle does not expire with the archive date and is available long after. I keep some of the books especially non-fiction ones for future reference.

I think it's a relatively recent policy change (within the last year, if that article is anything to go by), but it seems like they agree that insufficient time isn't decent.
