Rozenn | 3 comments Hi !

Can you separate these two books ? The second one is not a new edition but a complete rewriting for a new serie. It is no longer the same book. Thank you for your help !

Has there been a change in policy? I thought rewritten books were combined?

Emmy de Reus (nyneve) | 20401 comments Hi Carol,

From what I understood it is no longer the same book, see post #1...

I've seen that wording before & they didn't used to be allowed. Is it substantially the same characters, plot, etc?

Emmy de Reus (nyneve) | 20401 comments I honestly wouldn't know... you'd have to ask the author/applicant...

I've just spoken to an experienced Super who thinks I'm in the right.

Maybe need @Jaclyn to give a ruling

Emmy de Reus (nyneve) | 20401 comments OK, if you think the two editions should be recombined, go for it!

Um no, I'll ask Jaclyn for a ruling first.

I agree with you.

Separation is very, very rare for rewritten books. The ones I recall seeing approved were short stories or very short novellas rewritten into full length novels multiple times the length of the original work.

Rozenn | 3 comments Hi !

There are characters in common and many more. The plot has changed and is more complex. The entire serie will be different, with 3 volumes instead of 4. Points of view in the narration are differents. There are almost three times as many pages as in the old version (250 pages for the first version versus 600 for the new version).

Combining these two books would be confusing for my readers and detrimental for me, since my work today does not at all reflect my work in 2017-2018. Thank you for understanding !

(and sorry, I am french and english is hard for me to explain)

It needs to be a staff ruling IMO. I know this isn't the case here, but a lot of these cases have been rewrites because of bad reviews.

& all writers (you would hope) change & grow in six years.

I'm going out now, but I'll put a question up for Jaclyn when I get home. :)

lethe | 16359 comments Rewritten editions always used to be combined. I highly doubt that has changed.

+1
That's the outcome I remember from the former Moderator's rulings of similar cases.

Emily | 17612 comments While I would normally agree that they should be combined, if the old version is 250 vs new version at 600 pages, that may be enough to separate based on previous moderator rulings.

It will take time for me to find them in the group.
Edited to add:
Here's one

Oh, good, you found one. I remembered the length thing but couldn't find example.
