message 18: by Michael (last edited Nov 03, 2023 03:39PM) (new)

Michael | 4 comments Dune is the easiest one that comes to mind it's epic with political intrigue and the horror of prescience and the strange reality of Dune is quite an original creation in Science Fiction I think the idea to focus on humans and the mind instead of typically Technology which is very much the staple for Sci-Fi is an interesting choice adding a drug that extends you're life and gives you visions while making you addicted

The ideas are also incredibly esoteric at times so it gives me motivation and intrigue to revisit

I like the way Frank Herbert writes in a very Hallucegenic manner where the characters narrate like they're on some psychedelic horror trip and begin to disassociate at times but Frank won't go to off the rails and keeps it grounded and somewhat clear

Emma Brill (emmabrilllovesnezha) | 1 comments The Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy!! I literally can’t put the book down when I’m reading it. I just started the last book and I don’t want it to end 🥲 (And for the record, I didn’t actually like the Caraval trilogy, so if you’ve read that trilogy and didn’t care for it, don’t let it dissuade you from reading these!)

This topic was better handled in "Sleeping with the Enemy" or in Nancy Baker Jacobs' "See Mommy Run".

message 41: by Sneha (new)

Sneha Dey Anxious People by Fredrick Backman.

message 42: by Georgina (new)

Georgina Hynd | 9 comments The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini.... read in a day
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.... read in a day
Good Girl, Bad Girl by Michael Rowbotham (then next 2 in series were also in a day.... I'm desperate to know Evie's story)
The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons.... that was 2 days.... it kept me awake at night

You have that magical experience with a book you can't put down but then you move onto another novel and it's so disappointing when it doesn't grab you. Probably because that previous book is still lingering in your soul.
