The Fitz trilogies are some of my favorite books of all time.

They're great, but it seems like each time I finish a book I need a month to recover, and each time I finish a trilogy I need a year. They're definitely emotionally taxing. I finished Ship of Destiny last winter, so it's almost time to continue.

For now, though, I finished the new Murderbot, it was great, but I don't know where to go next. Winter finally arrived, so probably something that isn't too taxing.

Hey, I'm reading Robin Hobb right now too! After years off, since reading the Liveship Traders, I'm reading the Tawny Man trilogy.

I'm more than halfway through the third (Fool's Fate). Things are really picking up, but it's been a long, slow-paced journey to get here! I'm not complaing exactly; I'm really enjoying it. However, I'll probably read something a little faster paced next, and definitely won't dive right into the next series (Rain Wild Chronicles, I believe?).

Chris K. | 414 comments I've started listening to the next Murderdot story, System Collapse.

Tamahome | 7215 comments I finished the short horror novel Hex https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... I wanted more witch worldbuilding.

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1638 comments I too am listening to System Collapse. Nice to have Murderbot in your head being disappointed by all those around him.

message 57: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 1778 comments Just started The Arrival of Missives by Aliya Whiteley. A poetic and uncanny novella set in the aftermath of the First World War and the influenza pandemic.

I finished reading the Rain Wild Chronicles and needed about half a decade to recover. Now I’m going back to the beginning and reading them all again! I love suffering.

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1803 comments rereading He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan for a buddy read - I was too hasty in finishing it the first time so I will use this opportunity to savor it.

also reading The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the Hunger Games prequel.

It definitely takes about a month to recover! She tramples the heart strings!

Misti (spookster5) | 549 comments I'm reading A Plague of Giants, which I recently picked up at the bookstore without realizing I had already purchased it at some point on my Kindle. D'oh! Oh, well, at least I can flip easily to the maps and appendix.

Ted Henkle | 12 comments You're not alone, Misti, in purchasing items one already has. I do this quite frequently with my tabletop gaming hobby. The redundant copies go to my growing Donate Pile in the garage.

message 63: by Tamahome (new)

Tamahome | 7215 comments Finished Kristoff & Kaufman's semi-graphic Illuminae. Pretty cool layout format for a YA scifi. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 64: by Phil (last edited Nov 29, 2023 06:18PM) (new)

Phil | 1451 comments Finished Futureshocks edited by Lou Anders. It's a collection of original short stories with the theme of things we might fear in the future. There were a few authors I have read before (Alan Dean Foster, Robert Sawyer, Harry Turtledove) but most I hadn't.
Like any collection it was a mixed bag. The standout story for me was Absalom's Mother by Louise Marley. I was almost sobbing by the time I was half through the 20 page story.
Next up is Lock In by John Scalzi.

message 65: by Gary (new)

Gary Gillen | 118 comments I finished reading The Dark Half by Stephen King. And the Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan (Book #10 of the Wheel of Time). It’s been called the sloggiest of the novels of the series. It felt slow, but the writing was great. And Starter Villain by John Scalzi. A fun adventure from the point of view of a Bond-like villain. And the The Sunlit Man by Brandon Sanderson. It is the fourth novel of four in his secret novel series. Probably the best of the series with lots of action and plenty of Cosmere goodness. I am reading Assassin's Apprentice (Book #1 of the Farseer Trilogy) by Robin Hobb. I plan to read System Collapse (Murderbot Diaries #7) by Martha Wells next.

Scott (dodger1379) | 138 comments Just finished Bookshops & Bonedust (just as good as legends & Lattes) and just started The Forever War.
