I try to be postive, thinking that maybe they REALLY want these pricey books but their budget is limited, that's why they rely on the kindness of Santa during this season? 😅

But I agree, it made it rather difficult to give many books because it goes over budget with only 1 or 2 books

I use them to gift audiobooks also it helped me this year because my person had more audio than ebooks

LizzieG Garrett | 110 comments That's my take too, Ami. Maybe they put those on because they would rather 1 book that they would never buy for themself at $15. It takes some of the fun out of multiple gifting but I can see that as a possibility, and I get that as I have that same thought about my own finances. I don't think twice about the loads I'm dropping on gifting but see that $12 book I want and think, nah I'll wait and see if it hits Hoopla or something eventually.

I listen to a ton of audiobooks but I never would think to put them on my list since Heather says so specifically that it's for ebooks only. Plus, they're so pricey!!

Sometimes when I get frustrated doing this I go browse the "Show Us Your Goodies" thread to get a serotonin fix and to be reminded of the good things. This week I seem to have to be reminding myself often. Ha ha.

Lulu | 110 comments I was lucky with the person I'm secret Santa to, they have a big list, I've been picking the cheapest books to keep sending till the end.

It's when I try to gift other people I know that I hit many walls. Prices definitely went up, avg book used to be 3.99 now we are lucky to get a 5.99 price.
From my side it was really hard for me to add cheaper books to my list 🤓

Shandra | 83 comments On a weird note, could someone tell me how I could find wishes for audiobooks? Is there a search option? I would be glad to gift some if I could find them on wishlists.

I don't think there's an easier way then searching through people's list. If you find a way I'd like to know too 😆

Hemmel M. | 402 comments I know Audible uses square cover pictures, so when I look for Audible titles I scroll through a list looking for square images. It saves at least some time.

iam (iamreads) | 72 comments I'm definitely guilty of having more pricey books on my wishlist this year. I really wanted to add some cheap options too, but I also don't want to clog my (virtual) shelves with things I know I won't read anytime soon, or ever. So I'd really rather just get fewer books but make those the ones I really wanna read!

Also as a small tip, especially on those more pricey books: My favorite amazon price tracking extension for Google Chrome finally made an update to track kindle e-books too!! For the longest time it was impossible, but now you can set a price alarm for sales on ebooks as well :D It also shows price history though, which can be frustrating to see how many sales you missed... but at least you'll catch upcoming ones :)
It's called Keepa, and while I find it easy and convenient to use I have also heard mixed opinions on its data privacy policy, so keep that in mind...

Trio | 156 comments I'll take a look at that extension iam, thank you for sharing that.

Yeah, I try to remind people to put a variety of prices on their lists but sometimes people don't get the memo...

Rena | 6 comments I don't think I have been paired up with anyone, I didn't get the name of the person I am going to send gifts to and so far I didn't receive anything from anyone either. Maybe I am missing something important?

Mariana | 46 comments Did you sign up on Elfster.com?

Shandra | 83 comments Rena I found a “Renata” in the participants of the exchange on Elfster. Is that you?

Hi there- you signed up after the matching had taken place, and this year I didn't match up the latecomers because I didn't go through each of their profiles yet. Please come back and play next year! :)

Just popping in to say that if anyone has a gift that they sent that is unclaimed and wants me to send a message on their behalf to nudge someone, please send me a message!

message 116: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 646 comments Oh! I have a bunch of unclaimed books!! I will try and nudge and resend the smashwords gifts (since those can be resent) but I might take you up on your offer Doc H. I hate to see books go unclaimed.

M'rella (mrella) | 792 comments Something is up with Smashwords. My gifts from elves were delivered a day late. But today I got all of them - duplicate messages from yesterday - at once. Very buggy :/

Yes - I had that happen to me a few times and I keep getting notifications for books I've already claimed

Me too. I received 3 messages in a row for 1 book that I've already claimed.

Same!! I was bombarded with emails tonight.
So strange...and I wonder if some are duplicates to the recipient or never arrived when originally gifted? I'm just grateful I know how to resend the emails, if needed. I wish Amazon had the same feature!

message 121: by Trio (new)

Trio | 156 comments I believe you can "resend" Smashwords gifts though... at least you used to be able to... I had some in my account from previous years and resent them the following year and it worked (so strange).

message 122: by Hemmel M. (new)

Hemmel M. | 402 comments You can even mail them to your home addresses and read it yiurself.. Of course, you can't gift them next.
