Best book/s I read this year: East of Eden.

Worst book/s I read this year: Recursion by Blake Crouch.

Most disappointing book I read this year: Tress of the Emerald Sea (still really enjoyed it, but I expected to love it).

Best book released in 2023: The Sunlit Man

New favourite author: Pierce Brown.

Was it a good reading year: Totally! Rated four books 5 stars, found a new favourite author, read a ton of classics, and only rated one book 2 stars. So yeah, great year for me!

message 3: by Kacie (new)

Kacie best books: Tress of the Emerald Sea, The Sunlit Man, and Yumi and the Nigtmar Painter (all by Sanderson). I also reread my favorite series.... The Queen's Thief by Megan Whalen Turner. always a blast.

worst book: Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds.

Most disappointing book: I've been looking forward to a specific fairytale retelling series for MONTHS and they finally just started coming out but I haven't been able to get into any of them. I'm sure I'll have to try again when school isn't stressing me out of my mind, but it was sad haha

Best book released in 2023: probably Sunlit Man as well.

New favorite author: Mary Mecham! I've loved every book of hers that I've read! aaaaand I get all her ARCs which is a bonus :D

was it a good reading year: mostly. I haven't read much at all since the summer cuz school has been absolutely insane but it was pretty good! the highlight of my year was Brandon Sanderson's secret projects. I also really enjoyed reading the Alex Rider series!

New favorite author: J.S. Dewes

Was it a good reading year: tbd!

Kiana | 27 comments Best book/s you read this year: The Final Empire, The Catcher in the Rye, Words of Radiance (lots more, did I mention this was a good reading year?)

Worst book/s you read this year: The Mortal Instruments series, Lost in the Never Woods

Most disappointing book you've read this year: Lost in the Never Woods

Best book released in 2023: Yumi and the Nightmare Painter

New favourite author: Brandon Sanderson

Was it a good reading year: Absolutely! I don’t think I even had one book rated under three stars. I actually had to rate some books four stars because the amount of five star ratings I was handing out was scarily high.

Catherine (semi active) | 130 comments Best book/s you read this year: Hmmm Scythe, Proverbs

Worst book/s you read this year: Sisters of the Winter Wood (unfortunately)

Most disappointing book you've read this year: Also Sisters

Best book released in 2023: Umm IDK, I actually haven't read in a while.

New favourite author: Paul?? XD

Was it a good reading year: Yeah, I'd say so! I was more picky about which books I read, which meant that 95% of the books I read were awesome:)

Catherine (semi active) | 130 comments @Kiana I heard that Brandon Sanderson is a really good author! Which book would you recommend I read first?

message 8: by Kiana (new)

Kiana | 27 comments @Catherine I started with Mistborn, and I reckon that’s probably the best starting point. His books are amazing! I hope you enjoy them!

message 9: by Hannah (new)

Hannah DCamp | 7 comments Best book/s you read this year: Percy Jackson and Harry Potter of course :P I also read one called The Last Dragonslayer that I really loved.

Worst book/s you read this year: The Coward. Definitely not a fan.

Most disappointing book you've read this year: Probably A Vow So Bold and Deadly. Usually I knew what I was getting into though, so I wasn't too disappointed :P

Best book released in 2023: Buffalo Flats. I'm not usually interested in historical fiction, but I did love this.

New favourite author: Madisyn Carlin (can't wait to check out more of her books) and Elizabeth Acevedo (finally got to read some of hers this year, and really enjoyed them).

Was it a good reading year: Absolutely - I got to reread some of my favorite books, and that always makes me happy!

Cate (redaugust) | 53 comments (Since my worst book was due to it being so disappointing, I redid one of the questions.)
Best book/s you read this year: Black Blood by S.D. Grimm
Worst book/s you read this year: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It was doing okay until that last chapter...
Most thought-provoking book you've read this year: East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I've never read a book that made me think so much about the motivations behind the characters before.
Best book released in 2023: I want to say Seize the Moment because I'm one of the authors...XD Curses and Buried Things by Caroline George.
New favourite author: Stephen Lawhead
Was it a good reading year: Definitely! I got a ton of books done, especially ones that I bought years ago and had never read.

mistborn (the final empire)

dont read steelheart. its so bad

Catherine (semi active) | 130 comments @Kiana and Taz Cool, thanks for the suggestion! I'll start with Mistborn, then, and stay away from Steelheart 😆

Catherine (semi active) | 130 comments @Hannnah Ahhh PJO and HP are so good!! If you had to choose one, which would you choose? 🤨

Catherine (semi active) | 130 comments (@Cate Nice redo question ;))

Catherine (semi active) | 130 comments @Surina Sounds like there are a lot of Brandon Sanderson! Why didn't you like Heartless? I know a lot of people who love Heartless.

Hannah DCamp | 7 comments Catherine wrote: "@Hannnah Ahhh PJO and HP are so good!! If you had to choose one, which would you choose? 🤨"

😳 Omgosh, that's an impossible choice, I don't know if I can answer it haha! I think I'd have to choose PJO because it's been a favorite for longer, but my goodness HP took over my brain in a way I wasn't expecting 😅

Catherine (semi active) | 130 comments @Surina That makes sense. People have thought so highly of it that I suppose it wouldn't be too hard for me to feel disappointed too (if that makes sense XD).

Catherine (semi active) | 130 comments @Hannah Haha I'm glad you chose PJO! I would choose PJO too. Have you watched the new TV series? I found HP more interesting than I thought too! I ate up the books 😆

✨ tazannah - not accepting friend requests ✨ (tazannahgresheld) | 397 comments Best book/s you read this year: gosh there’s so many!! Ahh, ok: the queen of attolia, fourth wing, falling, heartless, bitter blue, the toll, TFE, project Hail Mary, DotPK duology, dance of thievessss, the codex 🤍🩶

Worst book/s you read this year: we can be mended, free four, the cruel prince, the midnight library… but honestly the one I hated the most was steel heart lol. I finished it but just barely. Gosh it was soo bad.

Most disappointing book you've read this year: the cruel prince. I’m not a HUGE fan of fae books, but this book has gotten sooo much hype since forever so I decided to give it a shot. Yeah… it was so boring and nothing happened till, like, the last chapter and all of a sudden the author was cramming sm revelations and stuff in it. Not very good

Best book released in 2023: fourth wing

New favourite author: Mary Pearson, Megan Whalen turner, Brandon Sanderson, Marissa Meyer

Was it a good reading year: mm, there were def some good books this year, but I feel like I had a lottt of slumps and lacked the motivation to read at times :/ overall I’m sad I had to adjust my goal to 47 books and am looking forward to trying 50 like I originally planned next year

Chase Sears (kingflamedoesread) | 25 comments Best book of 2023: Light Bringer(Pierce Brown)
Worst book of 2023: Crossroads of Twilight(Robert Jordan), Stamped: Racism, Anti racism and you(Ibram X. Kendi)
Most disappointing book of 2023: Knife of Dreams(Robert Jordan). Everyone had been hyping it up so much as one of the best wheel of time books, and a total return to form, but I found it disappointing.
Best book released in 2023: Light Bringer
New favorite author: Pierce Brown, Will Wright
Was it a good reading year? I read a lot of awesome books, but I somehow still got into the worst reading slump of my life. This carried from December last year till just recently.

Chase Sears (kingflamedoesread) | 25 comments I've always been handing out way too many 5 star ratings, so this year I've resolved to be harsher about my ratings.
