Mattie | 1 comments I read this book in elementary school so between the years of 2006-2010.
We read it as a class and out loud with our teacher. It was a book where the main character discovers that an author is writing a book that once the reader gets to a certain page they forget how to read. I really want to find this book as I remember loving it as a kid and I think its a really interesting plot and just want to remember what book it was. I also remember something about the main character possibly sneaking into the authors house and that's how they find out about the authors plan.

Mattie, what's the theme or plot of the book that causes people to forget how to read? Has this book (in the story) been published and can you describe the fictional author?

Story's time period and location/ country? Fantasy world?

I copied some book details to the topic header. Feel free to edit it.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5545 comments I think that's The Mysterious Matter of I. M. Fine by Diane Stanley:
"What happened after page sixty-eight? You remember, surely! There were so many of you, all over America — all over the world. After page sixty-eight, you simply put . . . the . . . book . . . down. It was the last book you ever read, wasn't it? Because after that, you were not able to read. Not ever again."

Google Books preview of The Mysterious Matter of I. M. Fine by Diane Stanley by Diane Stanley - Becca's suggestion:
- There are different cover images.
Kirkus Review:
- "Franny’s family moves all the time and her style is to make friends by taking a book to school to see who responds. Right away she meets Beamer and by being observant, they begin to puzzle out a mystery connected to the “Chiller” series of books written by I. M. Fine. Each new book in the series seems to have a different disturbing effect on its readers. ..."
