Interesting exploration of race and privilege.

Told from the POVs of a black babysitter and a white suburban mom, with interesting layered and intertwined storylines.

I appreciated the premise, and the pace of the book was perfect. But I just didn't find the main characters believable. Alix was borderline evil in her neediness and her savior attitude. And Emira had the fortitude to finish a bachelor's degree, but then no further ambition - at all.

The only likeable character what 3-year-old Briar.
