SOLVED. Dean Koontz book [s]

I read a book by Dean Koontz (I'm almost positive it was him) a long time ago about a guy who goes home for i think it might have been his mother's funeral. on the way there (or on the way back) he stops in an abandoned town where i think there's like an active volcano causing the surface to fall apart.
He does some stuff there and everytime he makes a mistake time is reset and he has to do it over again.
I'm pretty sure there are demons or something. And there's a girl he has to save?
It's bugging me that I can't remember what this book is called!

No, definitely not Strangers... Think it might be strange Highways, but not sure...

Yeah, strangers was my first thought too, but no time issues. I went thru a 'all things Koontz went I was a teenager, and it doesn't sound very familiar to me. Maybe his more recent books?

Umm... Having seen your mention of "Strange Highways", it took me about 30 seconds to find this on Wikipedia:

"Strange Highways" (novel): a failed author returns to his hometown after many years to attend his father's funeral, only to find himself suddenly and inexplicably thrust back through time to relive a traumatic event from his past, and possibly to find redemption. In the introduction, Koontz lists the Centralia, Pennsylvania mine fire as an inspiration for this story.
