Nidhi | 9 comments WHEN: I read this book in the late 1990s at Pohick Library in Fairfax County, VA.

WHAT: I think there was some sort of game show element involved in the other dimension having to do with the missing items. I think the main character was a girl (teenager maybe, or preteen?). There's some sort of story involved with something important of hers going missing, I think, and that's why she finds this other dimension.

GENRE: YA Fantasy I think? But not fantasy like dragons etc. More like magical realism, in that it took place in our real world with this magical element of the dimension where missing things go.

FORMAT: I read it in hardcover. With maybe a red cover?

I've tried googling, but no luck - I'm only finding more recent books with "lost" in the title, nothing from the '90s. Thank you!

Dee (austhokie) | 638 comments my thought was the same as Jules - Finders Keepers - i remember reading those in elementry school

Nidhi | 9 comments Maybe?! The title The Timekeeper seems familiar, but I could have sworn the main character was a girl. I've ordered it and will read it and report back. Thanks so much @Juels and @Dee!

Mir | 802 comments I know I read something with missing socks going to another dimension...I think the MC got to the other world through the back of the dryer. Just commenting in case I remember more details.

Capn | 3506 comments The Timekeeper which Juels suggested is also on OpenLibrary - you can take a look for free! :)

(If it was missing biros, then THHGTTG series might be worth revisiting! ;) The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy: A Trilogy in Five Parts)

Juels | 3312 comments The Land of the Lost Socks by Michael Romano? I think this is the book to which Mir is referring.

The thing I read would have been published much earlier (probably over 20 years ago) but thanks anyway!
