Drace (dracenines) | 7526 comments So I know that proofs of a book get deleted from Goodreads per the site's rules. However, a publisher seems to have accidentally put a proof copy of a book from an author I like up for sale on Amazon and assigned it an ISBN number, despite the big "advanced copy, not for sale" banner on the cover. This should probably just be marked invalid, right? Or does the ISBN mean there's some new wrinkle with the rules that I'm not aware of?

Scott | 9237 comments Advance copies are valid for inclusion. They are not the same as the "proof" copies we delete, which were never supposed to be visible to anyone.

So should it be merged with the main page for the book?

Also, bizarrely enough, despite saying "advanced reader copy, not for sale" on the cover, it's listed as a preorder that doesn't release until the end of June.

Scott | 9237 comments It should be combined, since it is the same book, yes.

Perhaps the ARC has the same ISBN as the final release and they simply put that cover there for now.

Scott | 9237 comments Here's an ARC I read last year:

To clarify my confusion, the book released two days ago, but the ARC is listed as unavailable until June. The ISBN issue is also confusing; the ARC has a different ISBN from the actual published edition that just came out, and in my experience with ARC copies that I've acquired over the years, they usually have the same ISBN as the first edition release of the book.

Anyway, could you please combine the main edition and ARC while this thread is still up and running?

Scott | 9237 comments Combined.

They often do have the same ISBN but as in the case of the McMahon I linked to, sometimes they have their own.

Thanks for the help. I'll keep an eye out to see if the publisher clarifies what the deal with the ARC is, but until that happens I think everything's set. Marking this thread as done.
