SOLVED. YA Historical Fiction about a black kitten (possibly named Moses) that goes on an adventure across the American frontier? Older Book. [s]

Hello, I am trying to find a book I read when I was in middle school (so probably 2009-2011ish?) and while I cannot say the exact date this book was published in, I do know it was an older book. The copy that my school's library had didn't even have an official cover, it was just the book and then an eteched in picture of a small black cat I believe.

My memories of the book are very vague but I do remember that it involved a cat. I believe the cat was given a religious name and I really strongly believe the cat's name was Moses, but I might be wrong about that. He gets adopted by a human girl and I believe the book was about them getting on a wagon and travelling West with the cat.

The only scene specifically I think I can recall is that the cat at one point gets butter or milk in his fur and he is like, licking it off.

Otherwise, my memories of the book are completely gone. I do remember a long time ago, I logged this book on an old Goodreads account and barely anyone else had added this book, so it's nothing popular... but I cannot for the life of me recall what it is. If anyone knows, please tell me and thank you so much. I've been dying to reread this book as it was one of my favorites when I was really young.
