Beauty from Beauty and the Beast is one of the most loved female protagonist. Not only for her love of books and generous nature but of her courage and initiatives. In this retelling of the fairy tale, Beauty (or Yeva), is a born hunter. Or at least that's what she really wanted to be except that that is against society's rules. Or maybe that's what she thought she really wanted.
When misfortune descends and their family is forced to move into her father's old hunting lodge. And when misfortune once again hit, Beauty just had to go into the forest to hunt the Beast who killed her father. Until she was taken hostage instead. We all know how the story goes and it goes pretty much the same way. It has got, however, a Russian twist. The story is set in Russia (despite the coldest winter and plenty snow, I didn't really feel it?!) with a weaving in this tale of a Russian fairy tale, "Tsarevitch Ivan, the Firebird and the Gray Wolf", which I thought was a really nice touch.
As always, at the end of reading a retelling of Beauty and the Beast... a GREAT Big sighsssss of contentment.
