Katherine (maybeandroid) I was really surprised by the ending of part one. I was a little disappointed to be honest, I had started to really get into the book. I thought I was getting the hang of the world and all the different characters and the political side of things. And now Inda has to leave the academy just as I was getting sucked into that story! But I am still really enjoying the book. Like I said in the earlier thread, I think the world building is really detailed and complex and while that can make it a bit slow and difficult at times, it is still really interesting. I think I've now read enough that I'm really appreciating the relationships between the different families and the political stuff going on because of that. I do think the world is really brutal though, I really don't understand why they think it's a good tradition to have older brothers brutalise their younger siblings. I did like seeing Tanrid and Inda develop though, I was glad that Tanrid believed Inda's side of the story. I am really looking forward to seeing what happens to Inda from here!

Sarah (sarahs_chapter) | 5 comments I've just finished part one (I don't know why it's taking me so long to read) and I have all the feels!

Poor Inda! I was really enjoying the academy setting and Inda would've done so well there and then it got real serious real fast. Honour and politics are so frustrating!

Does this mean Inda and Tanrid won't see each other again? what about Inda and sponge? I have so many questions!

I guess this will mean lots of new adventures for Inda though, I look forward to getting into part two!

Tanya (aka ListObsessedReader) (listobsessed) | 1 comments Oh dear, I have been woeful at participating in this readalong so far! It doesn't help that I didn't get started until later in the month... But just checking in to say I've finished part 1 and am loving it!!

Paul (paul_sff) | 7 comments I am really impressed at Sherwood Smith's ability to take children, a school, and war games, things that normally are ignored in fantasy books, and create ramifications that ripple throughout the entire kingdom. It is interesting to use the kids as chess pieces in political maneuvering. The only other series that I've read that does this is A Song of Ice and Fire.
